    Abstract: A hand-held wallpaper steamer for use in stripping wallpaper which includes a housing accommodating a water tank, an electrically heated steam generator and an electric pump for pumping water from the tank to the steam generator. The steamer also has a base portion with a peripheral wall and forming a steam chamber to which steam is supplied by the steam generator. The water tank has a water capacity of substantially 400 cc. The electric heating element has an electrical rating of 1.2 Kw. The pumping rate of the pump is about 25 cc/minute. These values allow a user to use the steamer for about 20 minutes before the water tank needs refilling.

    Abstract: An instantaneous steam generator is disclosed which has a plurality of heated channels having open tops. Each channel has a base having a steam generation surface with substantially parallel, sharp transverse ridges. The steam generation surface is heated to a temperature substantially above that at which an insulating vapor barrier forms between the surface and a water layer thereabove. The water flow is directed transversely over the ridges so that the vapor layer is separated from the water layer above and so that the water is instantaneously converted into steam rather than riding on an insulating layer of water vapor. The channels can be enclosed in a box having openings. The box is pressurized by a blower drawing relatively cool, ambient air so that relatively wet steam is distributed throughout the entire interior volume of a large oven. Control apparatus for heating the channels and controlling the water flow thereto are described. The instantaneous steam generator has a short regeneration period which allows re-steaming of an oven during a baking cycle.

    Abstract: A steam heating unit for heating and freshening food products having a food compartment enclosed by a pivoted cover or lid and a heat exchanger assembly for generating and superheating a charge of steam. The heat exchanger assembly comprises a heater plate having an electric resistance heating element therein and a heater plate cover disposed over the heater plate. The heater plate cover includes a plurality of ribs or barriers which form with the heater plate a steam generating chamber and a pair of steam superheating chambers. A charge of water is directed onto the heater plate upper surface, which converts the water to steam that then passes through a pair of throttling passages into the superheating chambers. In the superheating chambers, the steam is dried and superheated and then flows through a plurality of passages into the food compartment where it heats the food contained therein and imparts a limited amount of moisture to freshen it. The charge of water is drawn from a water storage tank contained within the unit by means of a double duckbill valve pump, which is actuated manually.

    Abstract: A portable, freestanding, fully automatic ancillary steam generator unit for use with sauna baths, steam rooms, or the like. The steam generator is disposed exteriorly of the sauna bath or steam room and comprises a housing, a body having an electrically heated, thermostatically controlled internal steam chamber disposed within and insulated from the housing, a water reservoir and a connector element for interconnecting the steam chamber and the water reservoir and for metering the flow of water to the steam chamber.
