    摘要: An actuating system for a controllable pitch propeller comprises a hydraulic servomotor arranged in the propeller hub and being connected mechanically to the propeller blades. Pressure medium is delivered to the servomotor, under the control of a control valve, from a pressure-medium source, which is connected to a stationary pressure-medium chamber which embraces a rotatable shaft connected to the propeller and which is sealed against the outer surface of the shaft and communicates, via a radial pressure-medium channel in the shaft, with an axial pressure-medium channel located in the shaft and extending to the hydraulic servomotor. The system further comprises an additional stationary pressure-medium chamber which embraces the shaft and seals against the outer surface thereof and which, via an additional radial pressure-medium channel in the shaft communicates with the axial pressure-medium channel in the shaft. The system also comprises an additional pressure-medium source, and each of the two pressure-medium sources can be connected alternatively to any one of the two pressure-medium chambers, whereby the actuating system can be operated in a substantially unchanged manner irrespective of faults in any of the two pressure-medium sources and irrespective of faults in any of the high-pressure seals of the two pressure-medium chambers.

    摘要: A pair of axially movable abutments are spaced apart axially within a propeller hub. A plurality of adjustable propeller blades are rotatably mounted on the hub and each has an inner portion located inside the hub. Such inner portion is in the form of a pinion gear. Racks extend axially inwardly from each abutment and drivingly engage respective pinion gears on the blades. Compression spring or springs are positioned between the abutments and fluid pressure is used for applying an axially inward force on the abutments for moving both abutments axially inwardly toward each other in opposition to the force of the springs for the purpose of rotating the propeller blades in a first direction. The energy that is stored in the springs when compressed is used to rotate the propeller blades in the opposite direction when the fluid force is removed from the abutments.In two of the embodiments a driving shaft is solid, and the fluid motor for moving the abutments together is within the hub and in another embodiment the driving shaft is hollow and the fluid motor is positioned forwardly of the hub, connected to the forward end of the drive shaft. In the latter embodiment, the springs, in two sets, can be employed in the fluid motor.

    摘要: A controllable pitch marine propeller has blades carried by a hub and a hydraulic actuator housed in the hub and coupled to the blades for altering the pitch angle of the blades in both directions, astern and ahead, and also beyond the ahead position to a feathered position. A servo-control system controls the actuator to adjust the blade pitch angle, the control system having a blade position feedback loop by which the system operates with positional feedback over the range of pitch angle between astern and full ahead pitch angles. However, the demand signal for blade feathering renders the feedback loop inoperative, and the hydraulic actuator then moves the blades into the feathering position without feedback action.

The auxiliary hydraulic system can include a separate passage through the propeller shaft, or a branch from the lubricant passage through the propeller shaft.
