An apparatus 10 is provided that includes a spatial array of at least two unsteady pressure sensors 18–21 placed at predetermined axial locations x1–xN disposed axially along a pipe 14 for measuring at least one parameter of a fluid 12 flowing in the pipe 14. The pressure sensors 18–21 comprise a plurality of pressure sensing elements such as piezoelectric film sensors 23 for measuring unsteady pressures associated with acoustical pressures and/or vortical disturbances. The sensing elements are disposed circumferentially around the pipe and spaced a predetermined distance. The pressure signals P1(t)–PN(t) provided by the pressure sensors 18–21 are processed by a processing unit to provide an output signal indicative of a parameter of the fluid.

A piezocable based sensor for measuring unsteady pressures inside a pipe comprises a cable wrapped around the pipe and an outer band compressing the cable towards the pipe. The cable provides a signal indicative of unsteady pressure within the pipe in response to expansion and contraction of the pipe. The cable includes: a first electrical conductor, a piezoelectric material disposed around the first electrical conductor, a second electrical conductor disposed around the piezoelectric material, and an insulative jacket surrounding the piezoelectric material and electrical conductors. The cable may be part of an array of cables wrapped around the pipe, and a signal processor may determine a parameter of the fluid using the signals. A housing is disposed around the pipe and electrical components associated with the pipe. Ends of the housing include a sealing arrangement, which provides a seal between the ends of the housing and the pipe.

An annular brush assembly includes an annular support and a plurality of electrical contacts disposed circumferentially about the annular support for contacting the stator coil. A projectile for a helical coil launcher is also disclosed having an armature coil and a body assembly containing at least one annular brush assembly for contacting a stator coil that is slidably engaged with the projectile.

The invention relates to a housing for a water-soluble crystal to be placed in its interior, with polished optical end faces, especially for nonlinear frequency conversion in laser applications, with a jacket housing for receiving and holding the crystal at its jacket, leaving these end faces free, and with housing lids sealing off the two end jacket openings of the housing in a gastight manner, the lids both being secured in a releasable fashion to the jacket housing, with an optically transparent window in the form of a disk being located between each housing lid and the jacket housing, the disk sealing off the interior by means of an O-ring. Each housing lid has an inwardly projecting projection at its lid edge, the projection engaging an outwardly open groove to form a latching connection.
