    Abstract: A portable data center is configured to be transported with installed computing devices between a first location and a second location. A tethered networking device of the portable data center can be deployed to provide a consistent interface for connecting computing devices at a first location with computing devices of the portable data center. Large quantities of data stored in the computing devices at the first location can be transferred to computing devices of the portable data center and the portable data center storing the transferred data can be transported to a second location where the stored data is transferred from the portable data center to one or more computing devices at the second location.

    Abstract: A power busway tap box with integrated uninterruptable power supply (UPS) functionality is enabled. A busway may be utilized to distribute electrical power throughout a data center. A busway tap box may incorporate one or more components providing UPS functionality. When the busway is distributing alternating current (AC) power, the tap box may incorporate a rectifier, an electrical energy storage device (e.g., a lithium-ion battery), and an inverter. The tap box may keep a substantially conventional form factor, or an extended form factor to accommodate larger electrical energy storage device sizes. The busways may run overhead in a data center and the tap boxes may physically couple with the overhead busways and be disposed beneath them. By distributing the UPS functionality throughout the data center, the impact of UPS failures may be lowered and/or environmental maintenance costs may be reduced.

    Abstract: A cooling apparatus for a container-based data center includes an air handling housing, at least one movable louver, a filter and a fan. The housing is configured for suspending from a ceiling of the container and comprises at least one heat exchanger. The louver is movable to direct air flow along different paths within the housing according to a selected operating mode. The fan is positioned in the housing and controllable according to the selected operating mode. The heat exchanger is configured in a self-contained water chilling circuit positioned within the container for use in a closed loop mode. The apparatus is convertible for use in an economizer mode that draws outside air into the container. An optional auxiliary heat exchanger element has a cold side heat exchange portion positioned outside the container and a connection through the ceiling to a hot side heat exchange portion positioned within the housing.

    Abstract: A monitoring system may receive data indicating work performed by a set of computing devices during a given period of time and may receive data indicating an amount of power consumed by the set of computing devices and support systems that support the set of computing devices during the given period of time. The monitoring system may normalize the amounts of work performed by different types of computing devices in the set and determine an aggregate amount of work performed by the set. The monitoring system may also determine an aggregate amount of electrical power consumed by the set of computing devices and support system that support the set of computing devices during the given period of time. A monitoring system may use the aggregate amount of work performed and aggregate amount of power consumed during the given period of time to determine a performance index efficiency for the set.

The portable data center includes at least one interconnect member, at least one electrical circuit, and an electrical power bus. The at least one interconnect member is configured for connecting the portable data center to the one or more external power sources. The at least one electrical circuit and electrical power bus are in electrical communication with the at least one interconnect member and are housed within a container of the portable data center. The at least one electrical circuit is configured to convert power received from the one or more external power sources at a first voltage level to conditioned power at a second, lower voltage level. The electrical power bus distributes power from the conditioned power to computing devices housed within the container.

    Abstract: A portable data center includes a cooling system comprising a cooling circuit, one or more air plenums, and one or more air moving devices. The cooling circuit circulates a heat transfer fluid through a portion of the cooling circuit that passes through the one or more air plenums. The heat transfer fluid that passes through the one or more air plenums cools air flowing through the one or more air plenums via the one or more air moving devices. The cooling circuit also circulates the heat transfer through a separate portion of the portable data center where heat is rejected from the heat transfer fluid into the separate portion of the portable data center. In some embodiments, the air plenums and at least a portion of the cooling circuit are mounted in a sub-floor space between a platform within the portable data center and an outer structure of the portable data center.

    Abstract: Deployable barriers are reversibly deployed in a data center hall to partition the data center. The hall is partitioned into an operational area, where rack computer systems are installed, a non-operational area, and a staging area where support infrastructure is at least partially installed. A barrier can be collapsed to incorporate the staging area into the operational area, thereby expanding the operational area, when rack computer systems are to be installed in the staging area. A barrier deployed in the non-operational area establishes another staging area. A barrier includes a deployment mechanism which extends through a space in the data center to enable a partition to be extended to partition the hall. The barrier can be mounted and deployed on support infrastructure, so that the deployed barrier and a side portion of the support infrastructure collectively partition the hall.

    Abstract: A system for passively exhausting air from a structure includes at least one pair of modules arranged on a roof of the structure. Each module has an exhaust face on one side and a sloped surface on the opposite side, and can receive exhaust air that flows upward from inside the structure. The modules can be arranged in pairs facing one another, with one of the sloped surfaces facing a direction of an environmental flow of air, so that the environmental air can flow up the sloped surface of one module and down the sloped surface of the other module without impinging on the exhaust faces of either module. The pairs can also be arranged side-by-side in an array, which can be expanded with additional pairs of modules to exhaust from the structure at a greater rate.
