Abstract: An example barcode reader includes a housing having a window. An imaging assembly is recessed within the housing, has an imaging field-of-view (FOV) directed toward the window, and includes an imager configured to capture an image of an object positioned within a product scanning region. An illumination assembly is recessed within the housing and has an illumination FOV directed toward the window and overlaps the imaging FOV by at least 70% from zero to 3 inches from the window. A controller is configured to receive a captured image from the imaging assembly and to process the captured image to: decode a barcode if the object is a product for sale; and identify elements of the hand of the user for identification if the object is the hand of the user.

Abstract: A slot scanner illumination system for a convertible slot scanner assembly includes a chassis having an optical cavity and a front opening. The optical cavity has an optical axis therethrough, with the optical axis being an axis along which light may be received by the chassis through the front opening. The front opening further has a first edge and a second edge opposite the first edge. A scanning window is configured to at least partially cover the front opening of the chassis, and the scanning window has a normal axis orthogonal to a flat surface of the scanning window. An illumination element is disposed inside of the optical cavity of the chassis. The illumination element is disposed proximal the first edge of the front opening. The illumination element is configured to provide illumination along an illumination axis, wherein the illumination axis is non-parallel with the optical axis and at an angle directed toward the second edge of the front opening.

Abstract: A media processing device includes: a housing; a cover rotatable between open and closed positions; a main logic board (MLB) supporting a controller, and having a slot extending into the MLB from an open end at a perimeter of the MLB, the slot traversing the MLB from an upper surface to a lower surface; a receiver affixed to the MLB on a first side of the slot, and an emitter affixed to the MLB on a second side of the slot, to emit radiation detectable by the receiver; and a tab movably coupled to the housing, to obstruct the slot and prevent detection of the radiation by the receiver when the cover is in a first one of the open and closed positions, and to clear the slot and permit detection of the radiation by the receiver when the cover is in the other of the open and closed positions.

Abstract: A stereo camera calibration method includes: controlling a stereo camera assembly to capture a sequence of stereo image pairs; simultaneously with each capture in the sequence, activating a rangefinder; responsive to each capture in the sequence, updating calibration data for point cloud generation by: detecting matching features in the stereo image pair, and updating a first portion of the calibration data based on the matched features; updating an alignment of the rangefinder relative to the stereo camera assembly, based on the updated first portion of the calibration data, and a detected position of a beam of the rangefinder in a first image of the stereo image pair; and updating a second portion of the calibration data based on the detected position of the beam of the rangefinder in the first image of the stereo image pair, the updated rangefinder alignment, and a depth measurement captured by the rangefinder.
