Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the production of a coated paper, paperboard or film, wherein the method comprises the steps of; providing a first suspension comprising cellulose fibers, applying the first suspension on a substrate to form a fibrous web, wherein the web has a first and a second side, providing a second suspension comprising micro fibrillated cellulose, applying the second suspension either to the first side of the fibrous web or to a surface of a drying equipment and conducting said fibrous web through the drying equipment whereby the second suspension is added to the first side of the web forming the coated paper, paperboard or film. The invention also relates to a paper, paperboard or film produced according to the method.

Abstract: The method of the invention relates to a method of manufacturing a fibrous, oxygen barrier film by casting a suspension comprising microfibrillated cellulose onto a non-porous substrate in a number of subsequent steps with intermediate drying. The invention enables an efficient method to manufacture an MFC film by casting technology without the problems of cracks or voids formed in the film. By applying the MFC in several layers, with in-between drying, the distance the water has to diffuse through is shorter, whereby the evaporation is more efficient and the film properties are not negatively affected by the drying.

Abstract: A method of forming a film comprising nanocellulose having an Oxygen Transmission Rate (OTR) value in the range of 0.1 to 300 cc/m2/24 h at 38° C. and 85% relative humidity (RH), and having a basis weight in the range of in the range of 0.1 to 45 g/m2 wherein the method comprises the steps of; providing a suspension comprising nanocellulose, forming at least one layer of a web or a film from said suspension; drying said formed web or film to a dry content of at least 65 weight-%, wherein said method further comprises the steps of; treating at least one side of said dewatered and dried web or film with ultra violet (UV) or electron beam (EB) irradiation; and wherein at least one cooling step is provided in connection with or after the UV or EB treatment step.

Abstract: The invention discloses a method to enable the efficient use of surfactants in web forming of a cellulose containing material, e.g. in the making of paper or paperboard. The method comprises the addition of microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) or nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) to the white water in a web-forming process in order to form complexes with surface active agents. The formed complexes are at least partly recycled to the process. This enables the producer to have control over the concentration of surface active agents in the system.

Abstract: The invention concerns a method of producing an MFC film comprising reinforcement fibers, which film show excellent oxygen barrier properties and is easy to handle. The method of manufacturing the film comprises the steps of: —providing a suspension comprising a first microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) in an amount of at least 50 weight %, reinforcement fibers in an amount of at least 5 weight %, all percentages calculated on the total solid content of said suspension, and a formation aid, —mixing said suspension to form a mixture, —forming a fibrous web from the mixture, and —dewatering and/or drying said fibrous web to form a film having a basis weight of less than 40 g/m2, a specific formation number of below 0.45 g0.5/m2, and an Oxygen Transmission Rate (OTR) value of below 100 ml/m2/per 24 hours, preferably of below 50 ml/m2 per 24 hours at 50% relative humidity. The invention further discloses a film and use of the film in food or liquid packaging applications.
