摘要: A trimode fuze is provided which comprises a combination of a standard dualode fuze with the addition of a void sensing mechanism. The modified fuze provides detonation of a warhead under three distinct scenarios: impact upon a hard target with detonation caused by the deformation of the warhead, displacing the hard target firing pin, penetration and continuous deceleration within a solid target with detonation caused by the expiration of a penetration delay timer, and penetration of a soft target with detonation caused by the transition from a target impact deceleration to the lower preset deceleration threshold.The first two modes of detonation are similar to those found in prior art dual mode fuzes. The third mode is brought about when target impact deceleration causes compression of a spring. As the spring compresses, steel balls slide out of a locking mechanism. Once said deceleration reduces below a preset threshold, an additional set of steel balls is released, which allows the spring loaded firing pin to impact on the detonator.

摘要: A multifunctional magnetic fuze is disclosed. The sensor includes an apparatus and method for counting each rotation of a projectile after firing from a weapon. A signal is generated which indicates the rotations of the projectile and a counter counts the turns so that the projectile may detonate at a predetermined nominal number of turns. The turns count may also be used to calculate spin rate and muzzle velocity so that the nominal turns count may be adjusted based on actual velocity. The fuze also may include a timer for counting a time to burst of a projectile. The turns count and/or the times count may be utilized to provide accurate detonation.

摘要: A plural mode fuze with a bimetallic spring delay module providing delay ing, impact functioning, random time detonating and/or self-destruct functioning of a munition. The fuze includes a cup containing a detonator and a safing and arming means, a striker cup slidably nested therein, and an intermediate compression spring for moving the cups oppositely from a safe position to an armed position. The striker cup contains a fixedly mounted bimetallic spring delay module, which includes a bimetallic Belleville spring containing a firing pin, a pyrotechnic charge for heating the spring, a heat sink and thermal insulation means. The fuze has a means for locking the Belleville spring when it inverts by heat from the pyrotechnic charge, whereby the Belleville spring overcomes the compression spring. Impact of the fuze with the ground, prior to the expiration of the first delay period required to invert the Belleville spring, pushes back the striker cup, thereby overcoming the compression spring and driving the firing pin into the detonator. After expiration of said first delay period, the bimetallic Belleville spring, held by the locking means, inverts without moving the firing pin, thereby overcoming the compression spring and drawing the cups together so that the striker cup cannot move toward the detonator. In the latter condition the fuze cannot impact function but self-destruct functions when the Belleville spring snaps back after expiration of the second delay period required to revert said spring by cooling, thereby driving the firing pin into the detonator.

摘要: A fuze mechanism for projectiles and the like is provided with a number of integrated safety catches which must be successively released before the fuze may be detonated. A firing pin lock cannot be released until the fuzing time has first been set. Release of the lock and the firing pin is also prevented by a centering piston response to inertial forces at the time the projectile is launched and another piston controlled by the clockwork of the fuze. The clockwork may be overridden by mechanism detecting impact of the projectile to permit detonation in a period of time shorter than the fuzing time.

摘要: A hydrostatically operated fuse having a pressure sensitive movable piston fixed to a rack and pinion gear arrangement. The movement of the piston corresponding to the working depth of the fuse is transmitted by the gears to a rotating cam device which may be preset to actuate a spring driven runaway escapement mechanism at any one of a number of selected depths represented by the size of the arc through which the cam must turn. The escapement mechanism controls a firing pin release mechanism which is actuated a predetermined time interval subsequent to the escapement actuation. A soluble salt washer device prevents the pressure sensitive piston from being exposed to the ambient pressure for a predetermined time.

摘要: A dual function bomb combining anti-personnel and armor piercing capabilities in a single bomb and capable of discriminating between targets. A frangible member in the bomb nose shears upon impact with a hard target, such as armor, and drives a firing pin into a detonator in an arming rotor to cause instantaneous initiation of an armor piercing shaped charge. Impact with soft targets, such as earth, will not shear the frangible member but causes an inertia firing pin to initiate a propellant charge and a pyrotechnic delay. The propellant charge ejects the warhead upward three to ten feet at which time the pyrotechnic delay initiates the shaped charge for optimum effect against unprotected personnel in the vicinity.
