摘要: A mine stopping panel and method of making it are disclosed. In one embodiment, the panel includes first and second channel-shaped panel members having a telescoping sliding fit one inside the other. An elongate end cap fitted in the first panel member. One or more connections between the first panel member and the end cap hold the end cap against movement relative to the first panel member when an extending force is applied to the end cap tending to telescopically extend the first panel member relative to the second panel member. At least one device on the end cap is configured for engagement with the first panel member to resist telescopic movement of the first end cap relative to the first panel member when a contracting force is applied to the first end cap. Other improved mechanisms for resisting contracting forces are disclosed.

摘要: A method for designing and fabricating a mine seal includes determining an initial thickness for a mine seal based on a predetermined underground opening, developing and solving a numerical model for response of the mine seal upon application of a blasting pressure, and determining whether the mine seal meets predetermined design criteria. A mine seal having a minimum seal thickness may be fabricated after determining the mine seal meets the predetermined design criteria.

摘要: A curtain for defining a barrier in an underground passageway between a pair of spaced-apart pillars, comprising a bladder defined by a pair of flexible sheets joined together by a plurality of cords which define a cavity between the sheets and being open at a top edge thereof. The bladder is fastened to a ceiling of an underground passageway between a pair of spaced-apart pillars therein. A rigid foam is disposed within the cavity, being formed of a flowable hardenable material introduced into the cavity. A fire-retardant coating is applied to exposed surfaces of the bladder after the hardenable material has hardened. A method of closing gaps between pillars in mine galleries is disclosed.

摘要: A mine stopping comprising a plurality of elongate panels adapted to extend vertically in side-by-side relation from the floor to the roof of a passageway in a mine. Each panel comprises a first elongate member constituting the lower member of the panel and second elongate member constituting the upper member of the panel, each member having a web and flanges at opposite sides of the web, one of the members having a telescoping sliding fit in the other. The upper member of each panel has a head at its upper end and a sealing member held in the head extending up out of the upper end of the upper member for engagement with the roof, the head being supported on the panel with the ends of the head spaced from the flanges of the upper member. The lower member of each panel has a foot at its lower end, the foot being secured to the lower panel member with the ends of the foot spaced from the side flanges thereof. The spacing of the ends of the head and ends of the foot from the side flanges of the panel members permits the side flanges to move toward one another to preserve the integrity of the stopping on relative lateral movement of the ribs toward one another. And a method of and jack for installing the mine stopping.

摘要: A stopping for use in improving underground mine ventilation comprising an assembly of wall elements, said wall elements comprising:(a) a plurality of rigid blocks, and(b) a plurality of compliant sealing members. The rigid blocks and compliant sealing members are combined in courses to form a wall which extends over substantially the entire cross section of a tunnel being stopped, the sealing members being interposed between and/or around the rigid blocks in a uniform or nonuniform arrangement throughout the extent of the wall so as to (i) accommodate convergence loads imposed on the wall, and (ii) form, together with the rigid blocks, a barrier against the flow of gas through the tunnel.

摘要: A sheet metal attachment system and method for the installation of underground mine brattices of the type in which a gas impervious barrier of malleable sheet metal is retained on a peripheral framework of slotted beams. The fastening system involves pre-mounting a plurality of bolts projecting from one face of the framework as piercing pins so that the sheet metal may be initially applied by forcing it over the pins. The pierced sheet metal is then drawn against the framework by a multi-apertured washer plate and barrier mounting nut threaded onto the bolts.

摘要: A jack for installing a mine stopping panel includes an extendible post and a press for extending the extendible post. The press can have a lever movable between an actuated position and a non-actuated position and operative to extend the post as it moves toward the actuated position and retract the post as it moves toward the non-actuated position. A yieldable biaser yields when the post is extended to extend the mine stopping panel and the mine stopping panel engages a mine surface with sufficient force to crush a stopping seal and anchor the stopping panel. The press can comprise an over-center toggle linkage.
