摘要:
A method for remotely updating software in a plurality of computer systems is disclosed. In one embodiment, a client computer sends application information about a software application to a server system. The server system performs a comparison between the application information about the software application and the most-updated upgrade package for the software application. The most-updated upgrade package for the software application is stored in a part database. The most-updated upgrade package for the software application is received by the client system automatically when the comparison indicates that the most-updated upgrade package has not been installed on the client system. A client database stores a plurality of configuration files for a plurality of client systems. A first configuration file provides the sever system with the knowledge of the software applications installed on the client system. The application information about the software application comprises version information of the software applications and is stored in a database in the client system.

A method of sharing a group of one or more objects between a plurality of users, in which one or more of said plurality of users is able to change parameter data of at least one said object. The method comprises storing at least one version of each said object; when an object is changed, creating a new version of the object, the new version of the object comprising additional data relating to the creation of the new version; storing the new version of the object together with any version of that object before the change; providing all versions of the object to each of said plurality of users; and using the additional data provided for each version of the object to determine how to display the object. The group may be a calendar and each object may be an event in the calendar. In that case, the object parameter data may comprise a start time of the event, an end time of the event, a description of the event, a status of the event, whether the event is to be repeated and the persons attending the event. The additional data may comprise an identification of the user who made the change, a time at which the change was made, a description of the change, a user comment relating to the change and an identification of the previous version of the event from which the present version was created.

A method and system for fast synchronization of computer databases using coverage status. First coverage information of a first database and second coverage information of a second database are accessed. Using the coverage information from the two databases, it may be determined which data elements from the second database are more recent than corresponding data elements from the first database. Data elements from the second database that are more recent than corresponding data elements of the first database may be transferred to the first database. In this novel manner, synchronization of two databases may take place without comparing corresponding data elements between the two databases in order to determine if a data element has been modified. By this exchange of coverage information, it is possible to transfer only changed records, in one direction, allowing for a consistent synchronization method that is typically faster than prior art methods.

A distributed cache management system that minimizes invalid cache notification events is provided. A cache management system in a sending device processes outgoing cache notification events by adding information about the source server's clock. A cache management system in the receiving device then uses this information to adjust event information once the event is received.

A method for backing up a computer file system is disclosed. A first snapshot of the file system is generated at a first time, the first snapshot having first pointers to data blocks of the file system at the first time. A network adapter receives storage operations to write new data to the file system. A second snapshot of the file system is generated at a second time, the second snapshot having second pointers to data blocks of the file system at the second time, the data blocks at the second time including the new data. The first pointers to the second pointers are compared. In response to the second pointers differing from the first pointers, data of the file system which have been changed between the first snapshot and the second snapshot are copied to a backup copy of the file system.

In accordance with embodiments, there are provided mechanisms and methods for tracking documents in an on-demand service. These mechanisms and methods for tracking documents in an on-demand service can enable embodiments to provide the sharing of documents and the tracking of whether one of the shared documents was changed. The ability of embodiments to provide the sharing of documents and the tracking can enable a safeguard that a user knows whether the document that they have in their possession is the most recent version. In an embodiment, the shared documents are stored in a document management storage. In an embodiment, each file has an ID that includes version information for checking whether the document is the most recent version. In an embodiment, an application is downloaded onto the user system that automatically upon opening a document checks whether a document is the most recent version.

A disk snapshot acquisition method, which is applied in a server comprising a memory allocated with a kernel space and a hard disk, comprises the steps of allocating all chunks having data stored as a disk volume in said hard disk; allocating a first portion and a second portion in said hard disk; establishing a snapshot pointer in said kernel space, said snapshot pointer pointing to a starting address of said first portion in said hard disk; and when original data in one of said chunks of said disk volume is to be modified, duplicating said original data to a chunk in said second portion as backup data, then modifying said original data into modified data, and storing a piece of mapping information comprising an address of said modified data and an address of said backup data corresponding to said modified data to a copy-on-write table in said first portion.

A method and system for synchronizing a main database of a server and a local database of a handheld device. A user can use an application residing in the handheld device to make transactions in the local database. During a synchronization operation, the handheld device and server are coupled. The system then determines whether the application should be updated and, if so, causes the server to provide an update. The system also causes the handheld device to provide to the server information related to the transactions made by the user to the local database. The system causes the server to perform transactions on the main database based on the transaction information. The system also causes the server to extract data from the main database. The server can then provide at least some of the extracted data to the handheld device to update the local database.

A computerized management system is provided. The system includes a routine for accessing journal entries stored in a memory and an automated journal entry generating routine for generating journal entries for a first set-of-books and for a second set-of-books based on the accessed journal entries. The journal entries for the first set-of-books are in accordance with a first reporting standard and the journal entries for the second set-of-books are in accordance with a second, different reporting standard.
摘要:
A method and system thereof for synchronizing a data set comprising a first data set residing on a first node with a second data set residing on a second node. Packets are exchanged with the second node. A packet comprises one or more messages and a message comprises a plurality of elements. At least one of the elements identifies the data set. Other information in the packets is used to identify any data from the first data set that needs to be sent to the second node and any data from the second data set that needs to be received from the second node, in order to synchronize the data set on both nodes. The data so identified can then be exchanged.
