A method and apparatus for suppressing a transmit leakage signal of a radio frequency identification (RFID) reader is provided. The apparatus includes: a first power distributor distributing a transmission signal to output a first transmission signal and a second transmission signal; a second power distributor distributing the second transmission signal to output a third transmission signal and a fourth transmission signal; a first amplitude/phase converter converting an amplitude and a phase of the first transmission signal to generate a first converted signal; a second amplitude/phase converter converting an amplitude and a phase of the third transmission signal to generate a second converted signal; a first power combiner combining the first converted signal with a first leakage signal generated in association with the fourth transmission signal; and a second power combiner combining the second converted signal with a second leakage signal generated in association with the fourth transmission signal.

An RFID interrogator includes a data transmitting unit, a data receiving unit, a tag-reception SINR estimating unit, and a transmission controlling unit. The data transmitting unit transmits a transmission signal to an electronic tag. The data receiving unit receives from the electronic tag a response signal in response to the transmission signal within a predetermined time after the transmission signal is transmitted. The tag-reception SINR estimating unit estimates an SINR value related to reception on the electronic tag side as a tag-reception SINR estimation value based on the response signal. The transmission controlling unit variably controls a modulation index of the transmission signal so that the tag-reception SINR estimation value is a reception-allowable predetermined SINR value.

A method for optimizing communication between an RFID reader and an RFID tag. Initially, an RFID tag is detected, and the tag type is passively determined. An optimization goal is then selected. An optimal parameter set for communicating with the tag, based on the tag type and the optimization goal is then determined. The reader is then reconfigured using the optimal parameter set to communicate with the tag.

The invention relates to a method for data transmission between a write/read station of an RFID (radio frequency identification) system and at least one RFID transponder, wherein the write/read station emits a query in order to demand an initial reply from the at least one transponder and wherein the write/read station emits an operating mode instruction before, with, or after the query, which instruction instructs every transponder that receives this query and operating mode instruction to emit its initial reply to the write/read station without or with a checksum.

Disclosed herein is a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system and method for controlling distance ranges. The RFID system includes a plurality of RFID tags, a plurality of readers, and middleware. The RFID tags receive position coordinates and time data through signals from a satellite and store data. The readers transmit and receive data to and from the RFID tags. The middleware forms a network in conjunction with the readers and controls distance ranges between the RFID tags and the readers.

A data transmission apparatus is provided, which is capable of performing good communication with a noncontact data carrier under the circumstances where pulse noise is generated. A noise detection circuit in a reader/writer detects a generation period of noise contained in received signals. A communication time calculating circuit calculates estimated time for communication to be performed for an IC card. A timing signal generation unit determines transmission start timing based on the noise generation period and the estimated communication time.

A multi-mode, preferably dual mode, radio frequency identification (RFID) tag is adapted for automatic detection of whether a RFID reader located within communication range of the RFID tag is transmitting a continuous wave (CW) or modulated wave types of RF signal, and accordingly, mandating a response from the tag in read-only (RO) mode or read/write (R/W) mode, respectively. The tag includes means for designating one of the RO and R/W operating modes as a default mode of the tag, and for switching the tag from its default mode to its other operating mode, and vice versa, according to a rule for determining the frequency of occurrence of a selected event related to signal type of the reader. A device-implemented method of this automatic detection, and a method of fabricating the tag, are also disclosed.

A radio frequency (RF) circuit includes a tank circuit having a selectively variable impedance. The RF circuit further includes a tuning circuit adapted to dynamically vary the impedance of the tank circuit, and to develop a first quantized value representative of a change to impedance of the tank circuit. The RF circuit further includes a detector circuit adapted to develop a second quantized value representative of a field strength of a received RF signal.
