摘要： A mobile cart for isolating an animal from a herd has a protective enclosure for housing an operator and the animal, and for concealing and protecting the operator from the herd. The cart has several modes of operation including a drive mode allowing the operator to move the cart toward the animal, a capture mode allowing the operator to capture the animal within the enclosure and conceal it from the herd, and a treatment mode allowing the operator to treat the animal within the enclosure before releasing or moving it elsewhere. In the capture mode the cart's front end may be lifted over the animal to trap it, or a gate may be raised to bring the calf into the enclosure, or both. A rear end basket for holding the captured calf has a screen with multiple positions for controlling visibility into the basket and enclosure.

The vehicle is operated to raise the pen off the ground and deliver the raised pen to an area at which the calf and the mother cow are located. The vehicle then positions the raised pen over the calf. Finally, the pen is lowered such that the calf is inside of the pen and the mother cow is outside of the pen. In one embodiment, the frame defines an opening at a side adjacent the motorized vehicle, with the method further including the vehicle operator entering the pen via the opening. In one embodiment, the pen further includes a foldable inner cage attached to an interior of the frame.

摘要： A prefabricated individual calf shelter has front and back end walls, first and second side walls, a top wall and an open bottom. All the walls are formed of molded fiber glass or other plastic as elements of a single molded housing. An animal door is located at one side of the front wall and the other side of the front wall cooperates with its adjacent side wall to provide a sheltered corner area for the head and front body of the animal. A feed opening in the side wall provides external access to the sheltered corner and is selectively closed by a cover. An externally and manually operable retaining element selectively holds the cover in closed position. The fiber glass housing has its smooth gelcoat surface at the inside of each wall and a rougher surface at the outside. The housing includes reinforcing and drainage features arranged for convenient molding, stacking, transporting and farm use of the shelter.
