Abstract: Optical arrangements for small size wide angle auto focus imaging lens for high resolution sensors are disclosed herein. An example optical assembly includes a first lens holder, a second lens holder, a first lens group, a biasing element, and a variable focus optical element. The first lens holder includes a collar having an internal flange forming a spring seat and the first lens group is disposed within the first lens holder. The second lens holder includes a collar defining a chamber and is coupled to the collar of the first lens holder. The variable focus optical element is disposed within the chamber of the second lens holder and the biasing element is disposed within the chamber of the second lens holder between the spring seat and the variable focus optical element and configured to apply a threshold force to the variable focus optical element.

Abstract: Methods and systems to focus an imager for machine vision applications are disclosed. A disclosed example machine vision method includes: capturing, via an imaging assembly, an image of an indicia appearing within a field of view (FOV) of the imaging assembly; recognizing, via a controller, the indicia as a focus adjustment trigger, the focus adjustment trigger operative to trigger an adjustment of at least one focus parameter associated with the imaging assembly; adjusting the at least one focus parameter based at least in part on the indicia; locking the at least one focus parameter such that the at least one focus parameter remains unaltered for a duration; and responsive to the locking of the at least one focus parameter, capturing, via the imaging assembly, at least one subsequent image of an object of interest.

The symbology reader includes a diffuser configured to diffusingly reflect light that impinges thereon positioned within the first portion of the cavity. The symbology reader includes an imaging assembly and a first illumination assembly positioned within the second portion of the cavity. The symbology reader includes an optical element configured to direct illumination light to impinge upon the diffuser.

An illumination assembly has a plurality of light sources operably coupled with the circuit board, a diffuser positioned adjacent to the plurality of light sources, the diffuser configured to generate a diffused light pattern, and a light pipe positioned adjacent to the plurality of light sources to generate a direct illumination pattern and an off-axis illumination pattern, wherein the direct illumination pattern is oriented generally parallel to the imaging axis and the off-axis illumination pattern is configured to intersect the imaging axis.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for capturing an image of at least one object appearing in a field of view (FOV). A housing has an image sensor an autofocusing lens assembly fixedly mounted relative thereto. The autofocusing lens assembly employs multiple lens groups and a liquid lens. The lens groups, liquid lens, and the image sensor are aligned such that light received within the FOV passes through the lens groups and liquid lens and impinges onto the image sensor. The image sensor generates an electrical signal indicative of the received image.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for directing an aim light through a window of an image reader. The window has a cylindrically curved section. The aim light impinges on a portion of the cylindrically curved section of the window prior to partially passing through the window. A first amount of the aim light is passed through the window, and a second amount of the aim light is reflected into the cavity resulting in reflected aim light. The reflected aim light is directed away from the imaging assembly such that no or substantially no reflected aim light impinges on the imager of the imaging assembly.
