The present invention provides a device and a method enabling a client connected to an external network to efficiently obtain information about servers connected to an internal network. An information processing device serving as an application gateway connected at an interface between the external network and the internal network performs a server information obtaining process about connected servers through the internal network in response to a request for obtaining information about the servers connected to the internal network transmitted from the client connected to the external network, generates a device list based on the obtained server information, and transmits the device list to the client through the external network. With this configuration, the client connected to the external network can efficiently obtain information about the servers connected to the internal network.

In a content supply system, in order to use a streaming server to perform a live distribution, a user PC used makes a reservation for a time zone, etc. to a server reservation control center. When the user PC sends desired reservation information to the server reservation control center via the Internet, if the reservation is accepted, a reservation ID only used for authentication of the reservation is created and sent from the server reservation control center to the user PC via the Internet. When a distribution request is sent from the user to the streaming server, authentication processing using this reservation ID is performed.

An authentication system for authenticating a mobile information terminal is disclosed. The system includes elements for: issuing a user ID to the terminal upon program issuing receipt therefrom; generating a random number based on the user ID and a time of issuing request receipt; registering the random number and the time of receipt in conjunction with the user ID; generating a first program for creating a first image embedded with the user ID, in accordance with the random number, user ID and time of receipt; transmitting the first program to the terminal; picking up the first image displayed on the terminal; recognizing first information from the picked-up first image while extracting the user ID from the same image concurrently; retrieving the registered random number and time of receipt in keeping with the user ID; generating a second program for creating a second image based on the retrieved random number, time of receipt, and user ID; and authenticating the terminal by verifying a match between second information from the second image generated by execution of the second program on the one hand, and the recognized first information on the other hand.

A two-dimensional code recognition processing method for recognizing a two-dimensional code made of a plurality of square cells arranged in accordance with predetermined layout rules. The method comprises the steps of: generating binary data from image information acquired externally in accordance with a predetermined threshold value; detecting a reference cell serving as a reference in recognizing the two-dimensional code based on the binary data generated in the binary data generating step; detecting corner cells each located in a predetermined search range with respect to the reference cell detected in the reference cell detecting step, on the basis of the binary data generated in the binary data generating step; and detecting code data assigned to the two-dimensional code existing inside an area of a code part enclosed by the reference cell and by the corner cells on the basis of the binary data generated in the binary data generating step.

An image recognition apparatus, method and program capable of discriminatively recognizing an object at an enhanced recognition rate despite an increase in the total number of reference images registered in image databases. When any individual person or public corporation for example is to be specified from the object image obtained by shooting the person or the like, one image database of the attribute corresponding to various situations, or familiarity to the object image is selected automatically, and then the person or corporation is specified from the shot image while referring to the reference images stored in the image database of the selected attribute. Therefore, even if the sum of the reference images is increased, since they are subdivided and classified corresponding to the attributes, the number of the reference images for each attribute can be reduced, and further the image database of the optimal attribute can be selected automatically in conformity to the situation of recognition such as date, time and so on. Thus, the number of the reference images can be minimized without the user's intentional manipulation, and the reference images are narrowed down due to the additional information of the situation.
