    摘要: A thermal radiation-generating decoy mounted adjacent an aircraft engine structure, such as an engine nacelle, includes a heat source inside of an aerodynamic enclosure with a mounting interface to attach the enclosure to the engine structure. The decoy can further be located at the lower extreme of and adjacent the forward-most portion of the engine nacelle in order to attract an infrared-seeking threat to the vicinity of the fan containment portion of the engine nacelle. The decoy can be designed to have a thermal signature that mimics a scaled overall aircraft thermal signature. In addition, the decoy can include a fuse shield adjacent the enclosure to detonate a threat in the case that the threat approach trajectory is imprecise and the threat bypasses the enclosure within an aspect of the fuse shield as viewed from the approach direction of the threat.

    摘要: This invention relates to a fume extractor (10) for extracting fumes from a bore (12) of a barrel (14) of a gun and comprising an annular main reservoir (16); an annular inlet reservoir (18); and an annular auxiliary reservoir (20), all concentrically surrounding the barrel (14) and being in communication with each other and the bore (12). The inlet reservoir (18) is sandwiched between the main reservoir (16) and the barrel (14). The auxiliary reservoir (20) is sandwiched between the main reservoir (16) and the barrel (14) and is located adjacent the inlet reservoir (18) on a muzzle brake end thereof. The arrangement is such that the main reservoir (16) is pressurized when the gun is fired and such that the fumes in the bore (12) are extracted by the release of pressure in the main and auxiliary reservoirs (16) and (20), after the projectile has left the barrel (14). The communication between the inlet reservoir (18) and main reservoir (16) consists of plurality of ports (24) distributed circumferentially each port being provided with a check valve (30).

    摘要: The Variable-Force Payload Ejecting System, residing within an air vehicle, utilizes multiple pressure generators, one or more of which may be activated, to produce variable levels of force. A controlling computer within the air vehicle determines when and how much pressure needs to be generated to eject a given item, such as a submunition, from the vehicle. In its determination, the computer factors in the vehicle's forward velocity and height over the intended target at the time of ejection and the characteristics of the particular submunition to be ejected. An activating mechanism activates one or more pressure generators to produce the determined amount of pressure. The pressure thusly generated acts on an inflatable tube that inflates and expels the selected submunition. The result is a more precise delivery of the submunitions onto the intended targets.

    摘要: A weapons cable retention device is used for separating an electrical connection, and retaining a cable and an electrical connector coupled to an aircraft, when a munition, such as a bomb or a missile, is released from the aircraft. The cable retention device includes a structural coupling for coupling to the aircraft, a rod having an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the length of the rod, and an attachment mechanism for attaching to the electrical connector. The cable retention device provides a substantially rigid coupling to secure the electrical connector. The cable retention device may be configured so that the attachment mechanism engages lanyard holes of a standard electrical connector. According to one embodiment, the structural coupling may include a collar that receives a bail bar on the aircraft structure through a hole therein.

    摘要: A method comprising the steps of lifting a stool-like device onto the recoil slide rails of a howitzer, sliding the device on the recoil slide rails of the howitzer until the device is centered under the breechblock of the howitzer, receiving and holding the breechblock on top of the device while permitting passage of the spindle through a hole in the device, and removing the spindle from the carrier without the breechblock dropping out of the carrier and causing bodily harm. After the spindle is removed, the breechblock can also be removed by raising the carrier and sliding the device out from under it.
