    摘要: A system and method for controlling the initial start up of a radiant heater used in an infant care apparatus. The system and method provides power to the radiant heater in excess of the 100% rated power of the heater for an initial period of time to cause a more rapid heating of the heater. The system utilizes an initial set power for the heater to determine the period of time that the heater is provided the excess power and discontinues that excess power after the determined period of time so tha the control of the heater is returned to a normal heating algorithm to thereafter provide the control of power to the heater. By use of the excess power upon initial start-up of the radiant heater, the heater more rapidly provides heat to an infant being cared for in the infant care apparatus. In the preferred embodiment, the system and method is used with an infant care apparatus that can be converted from an incubator function to a infant warmer by moving a radiant heater from a lower position where it is not activated to an upper position where the radiant heater is activated.

    摘要: A control for a toaster for varying the toasting cycle includes a switch for connecting the toaster heater to a source of electrical power. A temperature responsive resistance element senses the temperature within the cavity. A capacitor is responsive to the magnitude of the voltage of the electrical power. The capacitor and the temperature responsive resistance element are included within a timing circuit such that a selected duration of time for a toasting cycle to obtain a desired toast color is varied if the voltage of the power supply increases above a predetermined magnitude during the toasting cycle. The duration of time for the toasting cycle is also varied as the temperature in the cavity increases as a consequence of operation of the toaster for consecutive toast cycles.

The blocks are encoded or keyed to indicate that they possess particular predefined characteristics, such that only blocks having those characteristics may be inserted. The diffuser is constructed with a downwardly-projecting housing extension (132) for the power supply connection to allow the use of an adjacent electric power outlet when the diffuser is properly installed. The diffuser also includes an indicator LED (156) to indicate when a timing interval, corresponding to the life of a fragrance block inserted therein, has expired, wherein the timing interval is reset by a switch (182) only at the request of a user. Various circuit embodiments are disclosed for increasing the power applied to the heating element over time, since the aroma strength of a fragrance block decreases over time.

    摘要: A variable duration clock timer unit which may be adjustably set to energize an electrical circuit for a selected duration for each period of clock operation includes a momentary contact, normally open, switch frictionally mounted at a selected location in a concentric annular groove in a circular clock face below a rotatable clock arm driven by an electric clock motor. The clock arm is adjustable in length and has a free end in the shape of a triangle overlying the annular groove. The switch actuator may be depressed by engagement with the free end of the clock arm to close the switch for the period of time that the free end is in engagement with the switch actuator. Adjustment of the length of the clock arm changes the width of the free end portion of the clock arm engageable with the switch actuator and thus determines the duration of switch closing. The timer unit may be used to automatically control the operation of an electric defrosting circuit of a motor vehicle.

    摘要: An electronic timing system for timing a frying cycle of a fat frying apparatus includes means for adjusting the timing cycle for variations in the temperature of the fat or oil used in the fryer. The temperature adjusting portion of the system includes a thermistor mounted in a probe immersed in the fat or oil. The thermistor is one leg of a resistance bridge. The bridge is coupled across a comparator which senses the output voltage therefrom and generates an output signal which varies with temperature. This temperature-related output signal is compared in a second comparator with the voltage across a charging capacitor in a resistance-capacitance network. When the charging voltage from the resistance-capacitance network exceeds the temperature-related output signal, the second comparator generates a signal which indicates that the frying cycle is completed.

    摘要: An electrical heater for use in heating the engine, battery, seat or rear window of an automobile includes a thin, flexible rectangular heating pad embodying a composite electrical resistance sheet, a time switch mounted on the pad at a corner thereof and a pair of leads extending from the corner to provide for the operative connection of the heater to the vehicle battery. The pad comprises a resistance sheet composed of a flexible substrate of glass cloth having a coating of electrically resistive material on one surface. Header and distributor conductors an electrical contact with the face of the coating and connectable to said leads through the time switch are formed by a pair of elongated flexible braided wire electrodes extending sinuously across the coating and stitched to the sheet. Each electrode forms a plurality of U-shaped portions. The electrodes cross each other near their U-bases so that longitudinal stretches of one electrode alternate with longitudinal stretches of the other. The electrodes are electrically insulated from each other at the crossings.
