Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided that improve the registration between the color separation images. The systems and methods control the output of the image data for one or more of the color separation images and the velocity of an image-carrying member to remove or reduce registration offsets based on determined position and velocity of the image-carrying member. A position-determining sensor on an image-carrying member device module is used to determine the process-direction position of the image-carrying member to provide real time motion information. A position-determining controller determines the process-direction position of the image-carrying member by detecting a pattern of position-determining marks using the position-determining sensor and processing the detected data through averaging or correlation to eliminate detection errors.
Abstract:
An improved method of electrophotographic color printing in which only a single pass of a drum or belt is needed for formation and transfer of the toner image onto a desired medium by utilizing a transparent drum or belt for the supportive member for the photoconductive material, and exposing from the inner side of the drum or belt. The invention includes, among others, a method of synchronous laser-beam exposure that provides improved registration of images, methods of exposure for small diameter drums, a method to achieve a longer-lived drum or belt, an improved fusing method, methods of improving the toning process, and methods to achieve an improved image quality.
Abstract:
Apparatus and method in which a multi-color image, such as a standard four color image, is assembled on a medium, such as paper or film. Liquid ink contains conventional "solid" colored toner particles and also contains transparent counter ions. The conventional "solid" colored toner particles in plate to the surface of the photoreceptor while the transparent counter ions plate in the opposite direction, i.e., the transparent counter ions plate to the surface of photoreceptor in areas which are not discharged. Conventional "solid" colored toner particles plate to electrode in areas where the photoreceptor has not been discharged while transparent counter ions plate to electrode in areas discharged. This allows an apparatus and method in which the multi-color image can be assembled during a single pass of a photoreceptor without the necessity to erase and externally recharge the photoreceptor between development steps for each separate color resulting in an apparatus and method which can print multiple color images at an unrivaled speed.
Abstract:
A system for registration of color separation images on a photoconductor belt in an imaging system operates to detect a position of the photoconductor belt using an opening which may be scribed through the belt opaque layer. The registration system detects the position with the same laser scanner used for forming latent images on the photoconductor belt. The registration system includes a belt steering control system that steers the photoconductor belt based on the detected position to reduce deviation of the belt from a continuous transport path. The registration system also may include a scan control system that, based on the detected position, controls the modulation of laser beams scanned to form latent images on the photoconductor belt. By controlling belt steering and laser beam scanning, the registration system maintains the image quality of a final multi-color image upon transfer of registered color separation images to an output substrate.
Abstract:
A developing unit includes a housing enclosing a mesh belt stretched across first and second rollers. The belt passes between a pair of friction plates that can be used to tribocharge toner particles carries on the mesh belt. Charging occurs over the large width of the entire mesh belt and the friction plates. Toner is transported on the surface of the mesh belt to a developing roller which, in turn, transports the toner to the surface of a photoconductor. The configuration of this developing unit reduces the loading associated with the tribocharging operation and the belt transport system reduces the volume of the developing unit.
Abstract:
An imaging system is provided which combines the perfect registration capabilities of xerocolography to form perfectly registered red, green and blue images in a single pass in one mode of operation. In another mode of operation, the color gamut possible with RGB toners is extended using black toner to develop an image that is formed using a second imager or exposure device. The result is an extended gamut color imaging process using four colors side by side in a single pass with a minimum amount of color desaturation and with a minimum number of image registrations. Yet another mode of operation provides for creating K+2 colors in a single pass. The three or two colors may be used to form highlight colors and/or logo colors.
Abstract:
A color electrophotographic printing system that uses one switched developer power supply for all developers and that enables a reduced size by reducing the interdocument zone. The interdocument zone is reduced by using a developer order in which the last used developers in a development cycle is physically located first. Beneficially, the developer that is used first is physically located last.
Abstract:
A multistation color electrophotographic printer having an erase lamp located opposed to or before the last physical developer housing, but after the first physical developer housing.
Abstract:
REaD(Recharge Expose and Develop) electrophotographic printing using additive color toners and inhibited image on image development. Inhibited image on image development is achieved by setting the exposure set points such that exposure losses incurred when imaging through previously developed toner reduces the electrostatic potential for developing over the developed toner, by using a DC corona system during recharging so as to enhance the voltage drop across the previously developed toner(s), and/or by increasing the developed toner mass to increase the thickness of the dielectric properties of the developed toner.
