摘要: Water-based colorant traced formulations (products) containing one or more water treatment agents, such as phosphonates, polyacrylic acids and/or polymers, co-polymers, terpolymers thereof, azoles, molybdate, polysilicates, phosphates, zinc, polyphosphates, etc., are provided wherein the water-soluble colorant is detectable in the visible light range of about 580-640 nm and is chemically inert relative to the water treatment agent(s). Measurement of an optical property of the colorant in the treated coolant water permits the concentration of the product therein to be ascertained, and the level of the product containing can be adjusted for controlling scale, corrosion, deposition, and/or microbial activity in commercial and/or industrial cooling water systems. These products may be reliably monitored and dosed to maintain a product level in treated water of 5 to 500 mg/L.

摘要: A method and composition are provided for the operation of an evaporative cooling tower with minimal, or no, blowdown. In some embodiments, the method involves using sodium cation-exchanged softened water as makeup water for the cooling tower, providing a bypass filter for suspended solids removal from the cooling water, treating the cooling water with a composition for control of corrosion and deposition, and using an effective biocide for control of biological growth within the cooling tower system. In some embodiments, a composition is provided that comprises AMPS acrylic terpolymer, sodium silicate, phosphate ions, and polyphosphate ions. When dosed at the recommended levels, the composition controls corrosion of cooling system materials to generally acceptable levels in spite of the extremely corrosive environment resulting from the cycling of sodium cation-exchanged softened water in the cooling tower.

摘要: A mechanical release system and method for eliminating scale conditions in water are described. The mechanical release system may include a pressure vessel comprising a head that has a through hole extending from an inlet to an outlet on opposite sides of the head, the through hole divided by at least a circumferential partial rib into an inlet section and an outlet section. Implementations may work without restricting water flow or “water-starving” equipment and control water before it enters equipment and create a scale-eliminating environment within water for extended periods of time (e.g., up to six months or more).

摘要: A scale dissolver composition and method for using the composition is provided. Broadly, the dissolver compositions are formed by adding a base such as ammonium hydroxide to a mixture comprising a salt of a chelating agent, a carbonate, and a component selected from the group consisting of organophosphorus compounds, carboxylic acids, and mixtures thereof. The preferred organophosphorus compound is aminotristmethylidine diphosphonic acid while the preferred chelating agent salt is EDTA tetrasodium salt. In use, the dissolver composition is preferably heated to a temperature of from about 100-170° F. and then contacted with the target scale. The compositions are particularly useful for removing barium sulfate and calcium sulfate scales from gas and oil well and pipeline equipment in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

摘要: The waters used for cooling generally contain hard ions of the group consisting of calcium and magnesium ions concentration of from about 10 to 600 parts per million. Such waters also contain bicarbonate ions. When cooling waters are recirculated through a cooling tower, they are saturated with oxygen and tend to be corrosive and tend to promote formation of calciferous scale. Such propensities are inhibited by the injection of appropriate chemicals so that the inhibited water contains dispersants effective in dispersing incipient calcium compounds and inhibiting calciferous scale, so that the inhibited water contains a plurality of components forming a dynamic layer on metal surfaces protecting such metal from oxidation. The inhibited water contains about 1 part per million of polyacrylic acid having a molecular weight of about 1,000 and terminated by thioglycolic acid, plus about 2 parts per million of dispersants comprising both sodium sulfonate dispersants and phosphate ester salt types of dispersants plus about 300 parts per billion of a mixture of organic phosphonates selected from the group consisting of diphosphonates, triphosphonates, tetraphosphonates and polyphosphonates, plus about 400 parts per billion of an aromatic trizaole, plus about 6 parts of added phosphate. The effluent from such cooling water has a sufficiently low concentration of toxic components to be suitable for discharge into some natural streams.
