Abstract: A small, light, portable winch having a small gasoline engine, a centrifugal clutch connecting the engine through reduction gears, sprockets, and a chain to a spool having a cable which can be wound on the spool. A positive clutch can be disengaged to permit cable to be withdrawn safely from the spool while the engine is running. A brake permits cable to be controllably unwound from the spool under load. A two-legged bridle attached to the spool-supporting frame and handles on the winch facilitate smoothly spooling cable on the drum. A lever connected to a throttle control cable is conveniently located within reach from one of the handles, while the brake is controlled by a lever conveniently within reach from the other of the handles, and is adjustable.

Abstract: A truck mounted hydraulic cable reel apparatus for heavy power cable includes bed frame members supporting a circular turntable. A motor rotates the turntable 45.degree. to either side of a longitudinal center line. Two vertical stanchions are mounted on the turntable. One stanchion supports a tail stock assembly, and a second supports a reel drive assembly. The drive assembly includes a reel drive shaft connected at one end to a hydraulic motor and having a reel drive face plate on the other end. The face plate has lugs which engage lugs on an end of the cable reel spool shaft. The hydraulic motor reversely rotates the cable spool to wind in or pay out power cable. Vertical guide rollers are disposed at either end of the horizontal cable roller. Telescoping outrigger booms are adjustably positioned on either side of the bed frame. Multiple guide rollers on the ends of the booms open and lock closed to capture the power cable and to act as outriggers when laying or retrieving cable. A truck drives along a road with the turntable turned 45.degree., cable extends from the reel, over the horizontal roller along a vertical roller and out through the outrigger guide rollers into a ditch or along a roadside.

Abstract: In an electric winch system, wherein the system includes an electric winch provided on the outside of a vehicle body, a DC power source provided within an engine room, a pair of connector parts consisting of one connector part connected to the DC power source and exposed to the outside of the vehicle body, and other connector part connectable to one connector part, and a control switch connected to the other connector part, thereby controlling the running of an electric motor of the electric winch by way of the pair of connector parts, when the pair of connector parts are joined together, this electric winch system comprises; a power source switch provided between the DC power source and the electric winch in the vehicle body; and a power-source-switch controlling means adapted to turn the power source switch to a close position only when the pair of connector parts are joined together. By this arrangement, in the event that the electric winch is broken due to the collision of automotive vehicles during the running thereof, there is no risk that the DC power source is short-circuited, and hence a fire of the automotive vehicle is avoided.
