A moveable jaw and a stationary jaw define a crushing chamber, with a lower portion of the moveable jaw cooperating with a lower portion of the stationary jaw to define a closed side setting gap. A hydraulic tramp iron relief system operatively connects at least one of the jaws to the frame and is arranged to permit uncrushable material to pass through the crushing chamber by permitting the lower portion of the jaw to shift to a shifted position in which the gap is increased. The tramp iron relief system includes an adjustable hydraulic cylinder, the hydraulic cylinder arranged to permit the gap to be adjusted during operation of the crusher.

Therefore, the layout angle of the tension link (71) and tension rod (73) can be changed freely by the tension lever (72). The freedom of layout in the height direction can thus be improved. A tension spring 21 for applying a tension force to a tension rod is compressed on the counter swing jaw 6 side of a back frame 4 of the jaw crusher 1, and a tendon spring compression cylinder 23 for releasing a compression force is provided. A wedge operating cylinder 17 for inserting a wedge 15 into a gap formed between an inclined surface 12a of a toggle block 12 moved toward the swing jaw 6 by a gap adjusting cylinder 13 provided on the counter swing jaw 6 side of the back frame 4 and the back frame 4 is mounted on a cylinder support 16 provided on a back frame horizontal rib 11. A wedge operating cylinder 17 and a wedge 15 can be freely connected and disconnected by mounting and removing a pin mounting means 19. The wedge operating cylinder 17 is inclined after the pin mounting means 19 has been removed whereby the space required for maintenance can be secured on the back frame side of the swing jaw 6 of the jaw crusher 1.

A jaw crusher breaks a lump of asphalt cast into a V-shaped crushing space (V) which is defined between a fixed tooth plate (26) and a movable tooth plate (25), and which periodically changes its volumetric capacity. A toggle plate (12) is interposed between a body (1) and the movable tooth plate (25) to swingably support the movable tooth plate (25). A support member (9) which swingably supports the body-side end portion of the toggle plate (12) is vertically movably secured to the body (1). By vertically moving the support member (9), the spacing between the fixed tooth plate (26) and the movable tooth plate (25) is narrowed (widened), and at the same time, the stroke of the movable tooth plate (25) is reduced, thereby efficiently breaking a non-rigid object, e.g. waste asphalt, into small pieces, and reusing them immediately.

The invention relates to a jaw crusher wherein shims behind a toggle beam define various positions of its fore-and-aft adjustment along way slots in which its end portions are guided, and wherein the toggle beam is shifted forwardly away from the shims and rearwardly towards them by a pair of hydraulic rams, each connected between the housing and an end of the toggle beam. At each end the toggle beam has a forwardly-downwardly inclined surface slidingly overlain by a wedging member that cooperates with the upper surface of the adjacent way slot to wedgingly prevent forward shifting of the toggle beam and confine it against the lower surfaces of the way slots. Each ram has link connections with the toggle beam and with a wedging member whereby the latter is pulled forward out of wedging relationship before the toggle beam is shifted forward and is pushed back to wedging condition after the toggle beam engages the shims.
