A method and apparatus for generating servo information used in positioning the read head of a hard disk drive. The apparatus comprises a disk having a plurality of tracks, at least one of which has a servo field which includes four servo bits: an A bit, a B bit, a C bit and a D bit, where the A bit and the B bit have a common boundary located at the track centerline and where the C bit and the D bit have a common boundary. A servo signal based on the four servo bits is generated and used to position the head relative to a track of the disk. A servo signal may be generated from the sum of the difference between the A and B bits, and the difference between the C and D bits. An offset may be used to eliminate phase errors introduced into the servo signal. The offset may be representative of the magnitude of the difference between the C and D bits. The servo signal may also be generated from the difference of the difference between the A and B bits, and the difference between the C and D bits.

A plurality of elastic members are provided at the second case to apply a resilience force generated therefrom to the control circuit board when they receive a force applied to the first case upon assembling the first case with the second case via the control circuit board, so that the control circuit board can move toward the first case in such a manner that an accurate contact space is maintained between the control knob fixedly mounted to the first case and the control switches of the control circuit board. Accordingly, an improvement in productivity and reliance is achieved.

A monitor and method for monitoring the optical properties of a recording head of a hard disk drive. The monitor includes a light source that reflects a light beam off of the recording head. The reflected light beam is detected by a photodetector. The light beam directed onto the head has an intensity Ii. The light beam reflected from the head has an intensity Io. The photodetector and light source are coupled to a controller which calculates a reflectance R based on the ratio of the intensities Ii and Io. The reflectance R is a function of the optical properties of the recording head. The calculated reflectance R is compared with a threshold value. If the reflectance R exceeds the threshold value the monitor may provide a part fail message which indicates that the optical properties off a particular head deviates from a range of values. The present invention provides a means to quickly monitor the optical properties of recording heads without actually measuring the properties.

The error amplifier outputs the gate voltage by amplifying a voltage difference between a reference voltage and a feedback voltage proportional to the output voltage. The droop adjusting circuit is connected between the gate node and the output node, is coupled to the output voltage, and adjusts the gate voltage to compensate for a change of the output voltage based on a change of a load current which is provided to a load from the output node.
