The polycyclic compound has a pentacyclic core including aromatic groups fused to heteroatoms and has a sterically-bulky, first substituent linked to the core. Steric bulk of the polycyclic compound may increase intermolecular distances and prevent or reduce intermolecular interactions that could impede multi-resonance characteristics of the pentacyclic core.
