[Class 40 (viii)] [Also in Group XL (c)] An isolation network for feeding two loads 1, 3 simultaneously from two sources 5, 7 without interaction comprises a coaxial slotted line structure 10, so dimensioned that the loads are fed in push-pull from one source and in parallel from the other. A slot 15 is made in the line 10 of length #/4, the loads 1, 3 being connected to the outer conductor of the line section 10, on opposite side of the slot 15. A conducting sleeve 11 surrounds the line 10 and is coupled to the generator 7. The two parts of the outer conductor separated by the slot 15 act as a quarter-wavelength open wire line, short-circuited at the point 17. Thus, current flowing up the inner conductor of the line .9 from generator 5 flows into the load 3. This is balanced by an equal current returning down the inside of the outer conductor of the line 9, so that the loads 1 and 3 are energized in phase opposition by the source 5 without interference with generator 7. The outer conductor of the line section 10 with the sleeve 11 also functions as a coaxial line section short-circuited at its lower end 13, current from generator 7 being applied to this line at 19 to induce voltage along the outside of section 10 and supply in-phase currents to the load resistors 1, 3. The invention may be applied to combined television and sound transmission system (Fig. 2, not shown), employing a turnstile aerial.
