Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for frame based operation and medium contention procedures in wireless networks. In some aspects, devices of a wireless network may perform receiver side contention operations. To illustrate, reference signals from a receiving device may be transmitted to a transmitting device and used by the transmitting device to estimate interference for transmitter side transmissions. Such receiver side reference signals may more accurately reflect the interference profile that transmissions sent by the transmitting device will face, such as when operating in a spectrum shared with many devices. The transmitting device may utilize the beam(s) that satisfy interference criteria when receiving the reference signals to transmit data. Receiver side frame based operation may provide a more stable interference profile which enables better rate prediction, and the better rate prediction may increase reliability and overall network and medium throughput.

Abstract: Wireless communications systems and methods related to performing contention credit-based listen-before-talk (LBT) for communications over a shared radio frequency band (e.g., in a shared spectrum or in an unlicensed spectrum) are provided. A wireless communication device performs a first clear channel assessment (CCA) including a first countdown. The wireless communication device transmits, after a gap period from the first countdown, a first communication signal. The wireless communication device performs a second CCA including a second countdown. The wireless communication device transmits, beginning before an end of the second countdown, a second communication signal based on at least a first contention credit associated with the gap period.

Abstract: A wireless device uses a frame-based channel access mode to access a wireless spectrum for wireless communication. Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for selecting a minimum measurement duration in listen-before-talk (LBT) sensing slots for high band unlicensed channel access. In some examples, a device may select a minimum sensing duration for an LBT procedure according to a sensing bandwidth or an energy threshold (such as an energy detection threshold or an energy power spectral density threshold), or both. As part of the LBT procedure, the device may measure or sense a wireless channel for at least the selected minimum sensing duration in each sensing slot of the LBT procedure. The device may selectively transmit on the wireless channel according to a result of the LBT procedure. For example, the device may either transmit or refrain from transmitting on the wireless channel depending on whether the device senses the wireless channel to be available.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide staggered synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) in frequency sub-bands for beamformed wireless communications. Transmissions of SSBs and control channel transmissions (e.g., remaining minimum system information (RMSI) physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) transmissions) may use multiple transmission beams in a beam sweeping procedure. The SSB transmissions may be transmitted using transmission beams that span one frequency sub-band of a number of available frequency sub-bands, and the control channel transmissions may use transmission beams that span two or more of the frequency sub-bands. The SSB beam sweeping procedure may be performed separately during staggered, non-overlapping time periods for each frequency sub-band of the number of frequency sub-bands. Each of the of SSBs may indicate a reference timing of the base station used to identify a set of resources (e.g., a control resource set (CORESET)) that carries control channel transmissions.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems implementing beamforming, a neighboring base station may cause interference to a user equipment (UE) served by a different base station. To mitigate unexpected interference, an interference coordination region including time and frequency resources may be configured between the base stations. The interference coordination region may be configured based on long-term information for the base stations and may include one or both of a set of beam-avoidance sub-regions or a set of beam-preference sub-regions for a base station, where each sub-region is associated with a beam index. A base station may schedule a communication beam in the interference coordination region based on a beam-avoidance region (e.g., refraining from using a particular communication beam) or a beam-preference region (e.g., prioritizing a particular communication beam). The base station may transmit a message to a UE using the scheduled communication beam.

Abstract: A method of wireless communication includes determining, by a communication device, a value of a counter associated with a listen-before-talk (LBT) operation. The method further includes, after determining the value of the counter and during a first portion of a deferral interval associated with the LBT operation, performing a first measurement of a particular duration to determine a first energy value. The method further includes, during a second portion of the deferral interval subsequent to the first portion, performing a second measurement of the particular duration to determine a second energy value. The method also includes determining whether to initiate a contention interval associated with the LBT operation based on the first energy value and further based on the second energy value.
