摘要: Reliable contacts for connectors, connector receptacles that can be easily aligned to an opening in an electronic device, and connector inserts and connector receptacles that are readily manufactured. One example can provide a spring-biased contact having plunger extending through an opening in a barrel and biased by a spring. An intermediate object can be positioned between the plunger and the spring. The intermediate object can contact a barrel in at least two locations on the barrel.

摘要: Connector tongues that may provide a high signal quality or signal integrity to allow high speed data transfers, may be reliably manufactured, and may be durable and have good wear performance. One example may provide a connector tongue having contacts and traces formed on a printed circuit board. Using a printed circuit board for pathways through a connector tongue may provide low impedances for power traces, matched impedances for differential signal pairs, and shielding. This may provide a connector tongue that may provide a high signal quality or signal integrity to allow high speed data transfers. These and other examples may provide a connector tongue that is durable and has good wear performance by including side retention features on each side of the printed circuit board. The side retention features may be metallic, ceramic, or other durable material.

摘要: Board-to-board connectors are disclosed. The board to board connectors include a plurality of external connection structures, and a plurality of receptacle contacts. Each receptacle contact may be coupled to a corresponding external connection structure. Each receptacle contact may include an opening for receiving a plug contact for a corresponding plug side board-to-board connector, and an engaging feature where at least a portion of the engaging feature extends into a portion of the opening. The opening may have a receptacle alignment feature designed to correspond with a plug alignment feature on the plug side board-to-board connector.

摘要: An electronic device may have a housing in which electrical components on a printed circuit board are mounted. A connector may be mounted to the edge of the printed circuit board using solder. The connector may have a threaded portion that protrudes through the housing. A threadless portion of the connector may be aligned with the housing. The connector may have a metal body member covered with a metal shell. The metal shell may have a portion that covers the electrical components and serves as an electromagnetic interference shield for the electrical components. The connector may have a threaded barrel. The threaded barrel may have a threaded outer portion with a diameter that is larger than a threaded inner portion. The threadless portion of the connector may lie between the threaded outer and inner portions.

摘要: Circuits, methods, and apparatus that may provide audio jacks capable of providing a sufficient retention force to avoid some inadvertent extractions of an audio plug. Examples may also provide audio jacks that may be readily assembled. Other examples may provide other types of connectors. These audio jacks or other connectors may provide contact structures having one or more contacts, each having a contact support to increase contact retention force. Different materials may be used to form the contacts and the contact supports. In this way, contacts may be formed using a highly conductive material, while the contact supports may be formed of a material having good spring characteristics. While such a contact may not be able to provide an adequate retention force on its own, the use of a contact support may sufficiently increase the retention force to prevent accidental extractions of an audio plug or other connector.

摘要: Board-to-board connectors that can provide blind mating, are easily included in an electronic device, and are readily manufactured. An example can provide a self-aligning board-to-board connector that provides blind mating and that includes a first connector and a second connector. The first connector can include a first fastener fixed to a first internal housing or enclosure portion. A second fastener can be mated with the first fastener. The first connector can further include a housing, where the housing is flexibly connected to the first internal housing or enclosure portion but is constrained by the first fastener and the second fastener. This constraint can allow the first connector housing to move laterally and rotationally such that it can self-align to a second connector that is fixed to a second internal housing or enclosure portion when the first connector and second connector are mated. A flexible circuit board can connect contacts of the first connector to a board or other structure that is fixed to the first internal housing or enclosure portion. The flexible circuit board can maintain this connection as the first connector housing is moved laterally or rotationally during device assembly.
