    摘要: A power monitor for a light emitter emitting from a single face creates a monitor beam by deflecting a portion of the application beam and further manipulating the monitor beam to allow more efficient use of the monitor beam. For example, the monitor beam may be collimated to allow an increase in spacing between the light emitter and a detector for sensing the monitor beam. Alternatively or additionally, the monitor beam may be focused to allow use of a smaller detector and of a smaller percentage of the application beam. The diffractive element deflecting the beam may be either transmissive or reflective. The additionally manipulation of the monitor beam may be provided by the same diffractive element which deflects the beam, which is particularly useful when the diffractive element is reflective, and/or by additional optical elements.

    摘要: An improved optical system is disclosed for projecting light in the form of an image to a remote target. The laser light source and a holographic optical element are mounted together in optical alignment. The optical element is created using iterative discrete computer encoding for optimum efficiency. In alternate embodiments, the diffractive optical element has a collimating lens encoded into the grating levels and it also performs soft aperture circularizing using either amplitude or phase control over the coherent light. An embossed diffractive optical element laminated to an injection-molded refractive element is also disclosed.

    摘要: A spectrometer for use with a desired wavelength range includes an array of filters. Each filter outputs at least two non-contiguous wavelength peaks within the desired wavelength range. The array of filters is spectrally diverse over the desired wavelength range, and each filter in the array of filters outputs a spectrum of a first resolution. An array of detectors has a detector for receiving an output of a corresponding filter. A processor receives signals from each detector, and outputs a reconstructed spectrum having a second resolution, the second resolution being higher than any of the first resolution of each filter.

    摘要: Different techniques may be used to realize the simultaneous provision of bonding material at a controlled height on a wafer level. These techniques include photolithographically patterning a layer of bonding material and providing spacer elements on a wafer then contacting another surface having the bonding material provided thereon to transfer the bonding material to the spacer elements. The patterning of the bonding material may include using a mask direct contact with or spaced from the bonding material. The providing of the spacer elements may include forming the spacers in the wafer itself or attaching spacer elements, particularly a wafer of spacer elements. The resultant integrated structure has controlled spacing between the bonded elements.

    摘要: An optical apparatus for circularizing a laser beam includes a bench having indentations thereon and optical elements provided in these indentations. A first optical element has a high numerical aperture. A second optical element collimates the beam output by the first optical element and is spaced from the first optical element. This spacing is determined in accordance with a location of the beam output by the first optical element at which the beam will be most circular. The indentation in which the second optical element is placed may be both vertically and horizontally displaced from the indentation in which the first optical element is placed.

    摘要: A broadband diffractive diffuser contains at least three levels, with approximately a phase shift of .pi. between at least two of the at least three levels. Such a diffuser provides light with more than two phasor vectors at the zero order. The presence of the more than two phasor vectors reduces the zero order diffraction efficiency at non-design wavelength, increasing the usefulness of the diffuser at wavelengths other than the design wavelength. Preferably, the diffractive diffuser includes a plurality of regions, approximately 50% of an area of the plurality of regions presenting a phase shift of .pi. at a design wavelength, approximately 25% of the area of the plurality of regions presenting a phase shift of 2.pi. at the design wavelength, and approximately 25% of the area of the plurality of regions presenting a phase shift of 0 at the design wavelength. Such a diffractive diffuser may be formed by logical operations between two diffractive diffuser patterns, by adding two diffractive diffuser patterns, or by pixel-by-pixel scanning.

    摘要: In accordance with the present invention, a BOE-corrected, off-axis image forming apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus has a first stage with a primary reflective element disposed to reflect light incident from an entrance pupil of the apparatus and form a real image at an intermediate image plane, and a second stage located off-axis with respect to the first stage. The second stage is defined by a secondary reflective and/or refractive assembly which re-images light from the intermediate image plane to a final image plane. A binary optical element (BOE), which has higher-order optical characteristics for providing aspheric correction but extremely low optical power, is provided in one of the stages for correcting aberrations introduced by the other optical elements in the apparatus. The BOE contributes no more than about 3% of the optical power provided by the stage which contains the BOE.
