摘要: A method of producing flank surface modifications in gear teeth by controlled removal of stock material from a work gear with a tool. The method comprises providing a gear producing machine the tool and work gear being movable with respect to one another along and/or about a plurality of axes. A theoretical basic machine is provided comprising a plurality of machine settings for relatively positioning and moving said tool and work gear with respect to one another. Each of the machine settings is defined as an active setting with each active setting being represented by a function. A desired tooth flank surface modification is determined and defined by a set of coefficients for each of the active settings. The function for each active setting is then determined based upon the respective coefficients for each active setting and the functions are transformed from the theoretical machine to the axes arrangement of the gear producing machine. By this transformation, active settings movement defined on the theoretical machine is carried out on one or more of the axes of the gear producing machine to remove stock material from the work gear with the tool in accordance with the active setting functions of the basic machine.

摘要: A continuous method of manufacturing a face gear utilizing a tool, representing a plane which can be oriented to a face gear workpiece under an angle equal to the pressure angle of the mating pinion member of the gear set (e.g. the face gear set), and, which can be rotated around a virtual pinion axis to generate a tooth flank on the workpiece. The tool is a face cutter which performs a continuous indexing motion with equal hand of rotation of cutter and workpiece (e.g. face gear) thereby describing a hypocycloid path of motion and an indexing ratio of two cutter rotations during one workpiece gear rotation which will produce straight lines along the face width of the face gear.

摘要: A manner of reducing or eliminating chip packing in gear cutting tools, especially in bevel gear cutting tools wherein the back surfaces of at least some cutting blades are modified by the introduction of a rake angled surface and/or a hook angled surface thereby resulting in an opening-up of the gap between successive cutting blades in a direction radially or axially away from the cutting tool. Such an opening-up facilitates the removal of chips from between the cutting blades as the cutting tool rotates during cutting.

摘要: A machine (20) for lapping or testing gears comprising a single machine column (22) having a first side (24) oriented perpendicular to a second side (26) with the first side having a first workpiece spindle (28) rotatable about a first axis and the second side having a second workpiece spindle (38) rotatable about a second axis. The first workpiece spindle is movably secured to the first side and the second workpiece spindle is movably secured to the second side. The first and second workpiece spindles are movable with respect to one another along one or more of mutually perpendicular directions G, H and V. At least one, and preferably both, of the spindles are direct drive spindles. At any relative position of the spindles and their associated gear members (36, 48) along the G, H and V directions, the crossing points of their respective axes remains the same. For lapping, the machine further includes means (64, 66) to introduce lapping compound at the toe end of one of the members rotating in mesh at a location before the point of mesh. The inventive method provides for a smooth transition between points on the tooth surface thus avoiding the formation of a stepped tooth surface. A linear transition, or second order or higher order function transition, between points on the tooth surface eliminates the formation of the stepped tooth surface.

摘要: A method of monitoring the condition of a tool in a machining operation for producing a plurality of toothed workpieces. The process comprises measuring the temperature of at least a portion of the plurality of workpieces each at essentially a same predetermined amount of time after machining. The temperature of each measured workpiece is compared to at least one workpiece reference temperature value indicative of a wear condition of the tool. If the measured temperature is less than or equal to the workpiece reference temperature value, machining of subsequent parts continues, or, if the measured temperature is greater than the workpiece reference temperature, the machining operation is stopped.
