    摘要: According to the method of making a magnetic coating material, 100 parts by weight of a magnetic metal powder, 1 to 10 parts by weight of fatty acid, 1 to 5 parts by weight of a dispersing agent, and a solvent are combined in the absence of a binding agent, wherein the solvent is present in sufficient amount to yield an admixture having a solids concentration of the magnetic metal powder in the range from 65 to 70 percent. The admixture is kneaded using a pressure kneader. The kneaded admixture is then blended with a binding agent to provide the magnetic coating material.

    摘要: Flexible magnetic recording media such as videotapes based on ferromagnetic oxide particles can provide high carrier-to-noise ratios previously available only with metal powder tapes when the recording layer has a high loading (at least 74% by weight) of oxide particles which have a high surface area (at least 40 m.sup.2 /g) and includes free monobasic fatty acid comprising more than 1.5% by weight of the ferromagnetic oxide particles. The free fatty acid provides a coefficient of friction not exceeding 0.3. A preferred monobasic fatty acid is myristic acid. By incorporating into the binder a lubricant-adsorption inhibitor such as citric acid, a greater proportion of the fatty acid remains free.

    摘要: A magnetic recording medium comprising a non-magnetic support having provided thereon a magnetic layer on one side and a backing layer on the other side, wherein the backing layer contains (1) non-magnetic powders containing carbon black having an average particle diameter of from 0.1 to 1 .mu.m; (2) two or more binders wherein (a) at least one of the binders is a resin having a 100% modulus of from 15 to 150 kg/cm.sup.2 in an amount of from 50 to 95 wt % based on the total amount of the binders in the backing layer, and (b) the rest binder(s) is/are a resin other than the resin having a 100% modulus of from 15 to 150 kg/cm.sup.2, and the weight ratio of all the non-magnetic powders to all the binders in the backing layer is from 300:100 to 40:100; and (3) a polyisocyanate in an amount of from 15 to 40 wt % based on the total amount of the binders in the backing layer.

    摘要: A new magnetic medium permits magnetic recording either in the longitudinal or the vertical direction. The medium, unlike prior art structures, does not require a nonmagnetic substrate. The medium is a rigid magnetic disk homogeneously prepared from ferric oxide particles and polyethersulfone in ratios and proportions that produce effective and inexpensive magnetic recording media.
