摘要： Improvements in the guide body and nail feed mechanism of a nail driving tool, using wire collated nails, to eliminate the formation of loose pieces of collating wire and the trapping thereof under the heads of driven nails to form flags. The tool has a driver, a magazine containing a coil of nails joined together in spaced relationship by collating wires welded to each nail, a guide body providing a drive track for the driver and the nails, and a feed pawl which advances and retracts in guideways in the guide body and has fingers engaging nails of the coil to locate the forwardmost nail thereof in the drive track. As the forwardmost nail of the coil is driven into a workpiece the collating wires break near the forwardmost nail leaving forwardly extending wire segments on the next succeeding nail. The drive track is provided with windows positioned to receive the wire segments of the forwardmost nail and bend them upwardly along the nail shank as the nail is driven. The feed pawl is provided with wide feed fingers to support the wire segments of the second nail of the coil, tending to assure breakage of the wires near the forwardmost nail and orienting the segments for receipt in the drive track windows. The pawl and the drive track are configured to prevent breakage or nicking of the segments of the second nail by the head of the forwardmost nail. The nails of the coil are spaced to assure wire segments of sufficient length.

摘要： A conventional fastener attacher is fixedly mounted on a support. A stack of hooks is situated in a retainer which is movably mounted with respect to the support. A dispensing slide is movably mounted on the retainer, below the stack. As the retainer is moved towards the attacher, the slide automatically moves relative to the retainer to align a hook with the attacher. Slide movement is achieved through the use of a cam surface on the support and a cam follower extending from the slide. A single air cylinder moves both the retainer and the slide. The retainer can hold the stack in one of two orientations. In order to avoid jamming, the hook is held on the slide as it retracts or is realigned with the stack, if the hook has not been removed from the apparatus.

摘要： A turnover mechanism for turning a planar strip through one hundred and eighty degrees is disclosed. The turnover mechanism is particularly useful in the manufacture of tackless strips and is adopted for installation in a tackless strip manufacturing machine. The turnover mechanism includes a ratchet which is activated by the usual pin driving mechanism to rotate a turner in timed sequence with the pin inserting operations. The turner includes a groove and the turnover mechanism incorporates a cam to urge one end of each strip into the groove after the pins are properly seated in the strip. The turner turns over or flips each pinned strip in sequence to permit the tackless strip manufacturing machine to automatically apply a plurality of floor attaching nails in each strip in a direction opposite to the orientation of the pins.

摘要： An apparatus for making wooden pallets includes a conveyor for moving a plurality of parallel stringers under a nailing machine where deckboards are nailed transversely across the stringers to form one side of the pallet. During operation of the preferred embodiment, the gripping carriage of the stringer conveyor normally propels in front of it one set of stringers, on which three bottom deckboards have already been nailed to form a half-pallet, and pulls behind it a set of stringers that have had no deckboards at all nailed thereto. As the stringer of the half-pallet move under the nailing machine, five deckboards are nailed to its upper surface to complete the pallet and, when the trailing stringers move under the nailing machine, a set of three deckboards are nailed thereto to form a half-pallet. At a point downstream from the nailing machine, the full pallet is discharged and the gripper carriage starts to move rearwardly. During this rearward movement, the half-pallet is inverted and positioned on what is now the trailing side of the rearwardly moving gripper carriage. At a position on the upstream side of the nailing machine, the gripper carriage grasps a new set of stringers and starts forwardly again toward the nailing machine to have five top deckboards applied to the upper surface of the half-pallet to complete it, and have three deckboards nailed to the new set of trailing stringers to form a new half-pallet.

摘要： A board nailing machine, herein disclosed in the form of a pallet maker, in which the stringer or inner boards are automatically fed in spaced apart relation into a nailing station and the deck boards or outer boards are automatically fed into nailing position at said nailing station on opposite sides of the stringers and thereafter the deck boards are nailed to the stringers at said nailing station. In the specific embodiment disclosed the stringers are automatically fed from supply magazines into a nailing station wherein they are disposed in horizontal parallel spaced apart relation and the deck boards are automatically fed from supply magazine into said nailing station on opposite sides of the stringers and are disposed in upstanding substantially vertical nailing position at said nailing station, and the nailing mechanism is specifically designed to drive the nails horizontally through the deck boards into the stringers at said nailing station. Adjusting mechanisms are provided for varying the spaced relation between the stringers, the deck boards, and for varying the number of deck boards supplied, and to accommodate stringers and deck boards having varying dimensions. A method for assembling and nailing boards together also is embodied in this invention and includes the steps of automatically feeding in a programmed sequence inner boards into a nailing station and outer boards together. Also embodied in the method is maintaining the assembly of boards in upstanding substantially vertical position during the assembling and nailing steps of the method.

摘要： A building press for joining building components including building trusses, which consists of a frame having a fixed portion and at least one movable hammer, which frame is designed to receive a predetermined number of building components and to join the components with selected fasteners by means of fluid pressure such as air. The frame is equipped with at least one expandable conduit or several fluid actuated cylinders positioned between a fixed member of the frame and the hammer or hammers, and in a preferred embodiment, a multiplicity of fasteners are magnetically positioned on segments of the hammer to be driven into the building components. When a fluid such as air, oil or water is forced through the conduit, the conduit expands and the hammer or hammers force the nail plates into the building components to securely join the components in a selected configuration. In the alternative, the components may be joined by applying hydraulic pressure on several hydraulic cylinders by means of air, steam, oil or other suitable fluid.

The apparatus comprises a heating device in combination with a heating element having a first bore adapted to receive the heating device.
