摘要: A heater for liquid foodstuffs has a pipe through which the foodstuff flows and electrodes spaced along the pipe to drive a heating current through the foodstuff. In the embodiment, the electrode is a platinum coated cylinder arranged transversely in an enlarged part of the pipe so that electric current flows to the electrode only over a smooth surface portion, entirely within the edges of the exposed electrode surface.

摘要: an apparatus electrically heats a wire containing treating agents to a preselected temperature while controllably passing the heated wire into molten metal of a mold. The apparatus includes an insulated guide tube which has inlet and outlet contact orifices and wire feed apparatus for urging the wire through the guide tube at a preselected rate. A power supply is connected to the inlet and outlet contact orifices and the wire is in contact with the inlet and outlet orifices and forms an electric circuit. The circuit delivers electric current to the wire of a magnitude sufficient for increasing the temperature of the wire to a preselected temperature at the outlet orifices prior to entry of the wire into the molten metal.A method of heating the moving wire prior to entry of the wire into molten metal of a mold is provided by connecting the power supply to the wire and forming the electric circuit, urging the wire through the circuit and into the mold at a preselected rate, and heating the wire to a preselected temperature by passing electric current of a preselected magnitude through the circuit.

摘要: Apparatus for a continuous tandem electrical heat treating process for wire conductors for cables uses electrical contact pulleys having faces of a high melting point conductive material such as tungsten-copper. The melting point of the material is at least 1200.degree. C. The novel apparatus has reduced wear, arcing and wire breakage. Free running pulleys are also used instead of driven ones to avoid excessive tension. The free running pulleys have low torque contacts to apply high electrical current to heat the wire.

摘要: An apparatus for the heating of aluminum wire and other elongated materials by electrical resistance heating comprises two electrolyte containers within which are positioned cylindrical electrodes and a suitable electrolyte with the material to be treated drawn through the containers along the longitudinal axis of the electrodes. A guide path for the elongated material includes a driven guide roller such that the elongated material leaving the first container and entering the second container proceeds along a substantially vertical or inclined path. Each of the electrolyte containers are provided with an overflow means to retain, purify and recirculate the electrolyte. The driven guide roller is surrounded with an annular trap structure for catching any liquid flung from the material passing over the roller.

摘要: Moving metal stock of indeterminate length, such as tapes, wires, bars, tubes and the like, is annealed by the Joule effect of current passing therethrough from contacts applied to the stock at two spaced points. The stock moves over the contacts and so there is a problem of establishing and maintaining good electrical contact. The present invention provides as one of the contacts a fountain of molten metal that sprays against the underside of the stock. Molten metal is in electrical contact with a current source, and a motor-driven helical pump immersed in a bath of molten metal continuously provides the fountain.

摘要: An electrical contact member is disclosed which comprises a horizontally disposed electrically conductive tube, a pair of apertures in the upper and lower portions of the side in registry with each other, and a pair of cylindrical rodlike electrically conductive members freely supported in said tube in contact with each other and both extending across the lower aperture. In operation, a pair of such members are supported in vertically spaced relationship and electrically isolated from each other, the apertures of each in substantial registry with the other. An electrically conductive filament is threaded through the apertures of each tube and between the rodlike bodies of each member and electric power is applied to each member to resistively heat the filament between the contact members.
