    摘要: An indexable workholding apparatus. The apparatus has a column member with at least one pair of workholding jaws operably attached thereto. The column member is rotatably and axially supported on a shaft member that is operably attached to an indexing assembly. The indexing assembly is constructed to axially displace the column along a longitudinal axis to a disengaged position upon the initial application of a rotary force to the shaft member. When in the disengaged position, the column can be selectively rotated about the axis by the further application of rotary force to the shaft member so that the column may be positioned in a predetermined angular position. A damping apparatus is attached to the shaft member and column for damping the return axial and rotary motion of the column and shaft member when the application of rotary force is discontinued. The indexing apparatus further includes a device for locking the article in a plurality of predetermined angular positions when the application of rotational force to the indexing assembly is discontinued.

    摘要: An indexing apparatus for indexing an article about an axis. The indexing apparatus is adapted to be removably attached to the article and is constructed to axially displace the article along the axis to a disengaged position upon the initial application of a rotary force to an indexing assembly housed within the indexing apparatus. When in the disengaged position, the article can be selectively rotated about the axis by the further application of rotary force to the indexing assembly so that the article may be positioned in a predetermined angular position. The indexing apparatus further includes a device for locking the article in a plurality of predetermined angular positions when the application of rotational force to the indexing assembly is discontinued.

The index apparatus includes first and second circular coupling gears disposed on a table in coaxial relationship with the rotational axis of the rotary table. The first coupling gear is fixed to the rotary table via a circular support member made of an elastic material while the second coupling gear is fixed to the table base. A third circular coupling gear is further disposed between the first and second coupling gears and the rotary table. The third coupling gear is moved by a cylinder mechanism between a first position in which the third coupling gear is separated from the first and second coupling gears and a second position in which the third coupling gear is brought into engagement with the first and second coupling gears while the force produced by the cylinder mechanism is transmitted to the rotary table via the third gear, first gear and support member so that the periphery of the rotary table is pushed against the guide surface of the table base.

    摘要: A rotatable turret for bringing any selected one of a plurality of tool holders into operative position relative to a workpiece, is characterized in that the turret can be rotated in either direction so that it need follow only the shortest path between the location of the old tool holder and the location of the new tool holder when changing from tool to tool. For this purpose, the turret has a rotatable hub with a plurality of blocks on its periphery slidable relative thereto in directions parallel to the axis of rotation, into and out of slots on a fixed member, the location of the slots corresponding to the operative locations of the tool holders. The blocks are all secured to the keeper ring of an annular electromagnet, whose strength is sufficient to retain the keeper ring attracted when the blocks are out of the slots, but whose strength is insufficient to retain the keeper ring when the blocks are in the slots. Springs act between the hub and the blocks to urge the blocks into the slots; and cam surfaces on the fixed member cam the blocks out of the slots against the action of the springs in one direction of rotation of the hub. A driving ring for the hub has abutment surfaces that contact the hub only in that one direction of rotation; whereas the same driving ring has abutment surfaces that contact only the blocks in the other direction of rotation, and then only when the blocks are withdrawn from the slots.

    摘要: The turret on a slide of a machine tool is indexible between a plurality of positions in a sequence which is selected by a program. The apparatus for effecting the indexing of turret has a control unit wherein a hydraulic motor can rotate an indexing shaft at different speeds which are determined by the reciprocable spool of a valve regulating the flow of hydraulic fluid from the motor. The spool can be biased against a cam on the indexing shaft by a spring and can be retracted by an electromagnet which is controlled by a decoding unit having several cams on a camshaft which is driven by the turret and several switches which are adjacent to the camshaft. The decoding unit selects the direction of rotation of the motor so as to insure that the indexing of turret from a preceding position to the next-following position does not involve a rotation through more than 180 degrees, and the decoding unit further determines the timing of deenergization of the electromagnet to thus enable the spring to urge the spool against the cam on the indexing shaft immediately before a follower of the spool is in register with a notch machined into the periphery of the cam on the indexing shaft and bounded by a surface which effects gradual deceleration of the motor to zero speed. The turret is automatically unlocked from the slide prior to starting of the motor and is automatically locked to the slide when the motor is arrested.
