Abstract: An error table stores information indicating the occurrence of an error. A statistical score addition table stores the number of scores for disk or path according to the error. A control unit adds the first number of scores to the error disk. Also, when the information indicating the occurrence of the error is not stored in the error table, the control unit adds the second number of scores smaller than the first number of scores to the path to the error disk, while when the information is stored, the control unit adds the third number of scores larger than the first number of scores to the path. The control unit separates the path or disk of which the number of scores exceeds a threshold from the disk array apparatus.

Abstract: High-rate writing of data recorded on a CD into a hard disk drive (HDD) is performed while reproducing data read out of the CD at the standard bit rate prescribed for the CD. PCM data corresponding to a playback time of 10 seconds, for example, is read out of a CD and stored in a memory. The data is read out of the memory at appropriate timing and outputted after being converted into an analog audio signal by a D/A converter. In parallel, data for writing is read out of the CD in succession to reading of the data for playback and stored in the memory. The data read out of the memory is coded and compressed by an encoder and then stored in the memory. The compressed data is read out of the memory in units of a certain amount suitable for writing in an HDD and then written in the HDD. When the data stored in the memory for playback has become smaller than a predetermined amount, an interrupt is generated during the writing process with the processing, which is given top priority, so that a next set of playback data is read out of the CD and stored in the memory.

Abstract: Erroneous insertion of a battery into an imaging device resulting from downsizing of the battery is prevented. In a battery loading and unloading mechanism for loading and unloading a battery 2 formed in a flat rectangular parallelepiped and having an almost square main surface to and from a device (an imaging device 1) to be detachable equipped with the battery 2, the battery 2 is formed with projecting portions 26, 27 at longitudinal both ends of a back surface thereof and along the back surface, the back surface being a surface opposite to an insertion surface of the battery inserted into the device, whereby even the battery formed in a flat rectangular parallelepiped and having the almost-square main surface can be prevented from being erroneously inserted into the device. The projecting portion 27 has an inclined surface 271 acutely inclined with respect to the back surface, ana when the battery 2 is unloaded from the device, unloading of the battery 2 from the device is accelerated by the inclined surface 270 undergoing contact pressure of the retaining means. The device is formed with a notched portion 122 which is adapted to expose the other projecting portion 26 of the battery 2 when the battery 2 is loaded, thereby facilitating unloading of the battery.

Abstract: A toner is used in an image-forming apparatus that incorporates a toner-collecting member. The toner-collecting member collects residual toner on a surface of an image-bearing body. The toner includes a spherical toner having at least a binder resin, and an irregularly-shaped particles mixed with the spherical toner. The irregularly shaped particle has an average diameter in the range of 1–50 μm. The average diameter is 14 to 10% of the diameter of a spot printed by the image-forming apparatus. The irregularly shaped particle is a toner having the same color as the spherical toner. The irregularly shaped particle is a colorless toner. The irregularly shaped particle is charged opposite in polarity to the spherical toner. The irregularly has a roundness of 0.85 or less.
