Abstract:
A radio system may include a receiver configured for processing a received signal via a first path and a second path, wherein the first path may include a uni-directional radio receiver path and wherein the second path comprises a path that constitutes a receiver for a bi-directional radio. The first path and the second path may share one or more radio hardware components or may be separated components.
Abstract:
A device and method of creating and displaying a short message service (SMS) message capable of attaching and displaying animated characteristics is disclosed. To create an animated SMS message the user responds to input prompts asking for: a mobile identification number that identifies the receiving party, an animation flag that determines whether the SMS message will have animation characteristics, a content pointer location that specifies the location of a content file resident on the receiving device, and the actual text of the SMS message. To display an animated SMS message the receiving device parses the SMS message to determine how to apply the desired animation characteristics. An animation flag is checked and the location of a content file on the receiving device is determined. The content file is retrieved and combined with the text of the SMS message and the combination is then animated according to the animation type specified.
Abstract:
A transceiver circuit and a method in a wireless communication network are provided, where a signal power level for a signal received at the transceiver circuit is measured and compared to a predefined threshold power level. At least two groups of power amplifiers may be used, where one group is optimized for high efficiency above the predefined threshold power level, and one group is optimized for high efficiency below the predefined threshold power level. The amplifiers may be used to amplify the received signal depending on the signal power level in relation to the predefined power threshold level. The signal may then be filtered by duplex filters and forwarded to a diversity antenna or a main antenna where it is transmitted over an air interface.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a digital rights management (DRM) system and method based on device proximity for controlling what devices can utilize DRM protected content. DRM data and DRM protected content are copied from a first device to a second device such that the DRM protected content on the first device becomes locked out and the copied DRM protected content is not locked out on the second device. The first device periodically performs a proximity check between the first and second devices such that if the first and second devices are determined to be within a short range of one another the DRM lockout of the first device is disabled.
Abstract:
A system, device and method for wirelessly controlling a plurality of electronic appliances arranged within a local area include an electronic device having a location detection circuit, a user interface circuit and a display device. The location detection circuit is operative to determine a general location of the electronic device within the local area, and the user interface circuit is operative to receive the determined general location. Based thereon, the user interface circuit configures at least one user interface for control of at least one electronic appliance located in the same general location as the electronic device. The display device may display the user interface configured by the user interface circuit.

The program may be encrypted, and some methods may include transmitting an encryption key to the plurality of subscriber mobile terminals. A communication system includes a subscriber mobile terminal configured to play a multimedia program, an originating terminal configured to provide the multimedia program to subscriber mobile terminal and to provide a playback command to the plurality of subscriber mobile terminals to control the playback of the provided program by the subscriber mobile terminal. Computer program products are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A method for providing information to a GPS receiver includes selecting an apparent location and receiving positioning information corresponding to the positions of a plurality of satellites. The positioning information is combined and transmitted as a radio frequency signal that can be received by a GPS receiver. When the GPS receiver demodulates the radio frequency signal and calculates its position, the calculated position will be approximately at the apparent location, regardless of where the GPS receiver is physically located.
Abstract:
A handheld electronic device, such as a mobile terminal, a personal digital assistant, an ultraportable computer and/or a media player, includes a touch sensor, such as a sensor used for fingerprint sensing. A control circuit of the device is configured to support user operation of the handheld electronic device as a musical instrument that uses the touch sensor as a control input of the musical instrument. For example, the control circuit may be configured to dynamically alter an audio signal produced by the musical instrument responsive to contact with the touch sensor, e.g., to control a tone and/or a volume of the audio signal. For example, the control circuit may be configured to cause the handheld electronic device to emulate a stringed instrument wherein contact with the touch sensor corresponds to contact with the strings of the emulated stringed instrument.
Abstract:
A mobile terminal generates an estimate of GPS time. The mobile terminal includes a cellular receiver, a GPS receiver, and a processor. The cellular receiver is configured to receive communication signals from cells in a wireless communication system. The GPS receiver receives GPS signals and determines a GPS time reference therefrom. The processor estimates a cell time reference from the received communication signals, and generates cell-to-GPS timing data that represents a time offset between the cell time reference and the GPS time reference. The processor then estimates GPS time based on a time indicator portion of a received communication signal and the cell-to-GPS timing data. The estimated GPS time may be used by the GPS receiver to acquire GPS signals.
Abstract:
Mobile terminal implementing a ranging signal receiver and method. Means are provided to incorporate ranging signal reception capability into a mobile terminal (such as a UMTS terminal) notwithstanding the fact that the ranging signal has a bandwidth that is wider than the bandpass of filtering for native signals within the terminal. A ranging signal receiving subsystem receives broadband signals that comprise synchronization bursts, which are equally spaced in time, such as from digital television stations. A common filter will have a bandpass that it is smaller than the bandwidth of the ranging signals. However, the correlation subsystem of the mobile terminal enables recovery of synchronization bursts by correlating the ranging signal with a known sequence that has been predistorted to account for the bandpass of the common filter.
