Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for generating for display depictions of tournament-style competitions restricting user's access to any content that may spoil the results of the tournament. A user may request to view a display that contains a tournament and participating competitors. Requests may be received from users to view recordings of tournament competitions or a results display with the tournament bracket displayed. The media guidance application may access recorded versions of competitions from internal and external directories. Furthermore, the media guidance application may compare user viewing progress data and competitor progress data to ensure the user does not prematurely view results of any competitions of interest to the user. If the media guidance application determines a user's progress is less than the progress of the user's favorite team, visual representations of the competitions that may spoil the outcome of the user's favorite team's competition may be blacked out.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described to address shortcomings in the conventional network storage systems via novel techniques to store offsets of a recorded program in a network digital video recorder (DVR). Storing offsets of a recorded program may be beneficial to users that would like to record media content that is broadcast either prior to a start time of a program, or media content that is broadcast after an end time of a program. This feature may be useful when start times and end times of a program are variable (e.g., in the case of sporting events, or other real-time events). This feature may also be useful for recording content of interest that is scheduled for broadcast prior to a start time of or after an end time of the program.

After detecting a duplicate copy of a media asset, the media guidance application may determine which of the duplicate copies of the same media asset is to be deleted, or to be transmitted for storage at a different user device.

Guests may request notifications on their host's television, and the system will generate notifications based on the guest's interests and preferences as stored in the guest's user profile. The system monitors the network of the apartment or house and detects when a guest device is accessing the network. The system then accesses the guest's interests and identifies a set of programs based on these interests. The system then monitors these programs and generates notifications on the display device when an event of interest has occurred in one of the identified programs.
