    Abstract: A surgical portal device includes a body portion defining a longitudinal axis and having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen configured to allow a surgical instrument to pass therethrough. At least one securing member is disposed in mechanical cooperation with the body portion and is longitudinally translatable with respect to the body portion between a first, non-actuated position and a second, actuated position. The one securing mechanism has a fixation segment configured to grasp tissue when the one securing member is in the second, actuated position to facilitate fixation of the body portion within the tissue. The body portion may include a channel. The one securing member may be disposed at least partially within the channel and is longitudinally translatable with respect to the channel.

    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a surgical access system that includes a cannula assembly adapted for removable positioning within a percutaneous tissue tract, and an obturator assembly removably positionable within the cannula assembly. The cannula assembly includes a cannula housing, a cannula sleeve, and first engagement structure, and the obturator assembly includes an obturator housing, an obturator sleeve, and second engagement structure. The first engagement structure and the second engagement structure are correspondingly dimensioned such that rotation of the obturator assembly in a first direction effectuates corresponding rotation of the cannula assembly to facilitate advancement of the cannula assembly through tissue.

    Abstract: A surgical stapling instrument is provided having systems for securing buttress material to the anvil and staple containing cartridge associated with the surgical instrument. The system includes a retainer configured to engage the anvil or the staple containing cartridge and capture the buttress material between the retainer and the anvil or staple containing cartridge. The disclose retainer engages the anvil or staple containing cartridge in snap fit or friction fit fashion. The buttress material includes a circumferential perforation line enabling the center of the buttress material to be stapled to tissue while the remainder of the buttress material remains with the anvil or staple containing cartridge.

    Abstract: A surgical system comprising a cannula assembly and an obturator assembly for penetrating tissue is disclosed. A cover of the cannula assembly is mounted to a cannula housing and has a cover aperture therethrough. The cover has a trailing end face defining a predetermined geometrical configuration, at least a portion of the trailing end face is obliquely arranged relative to a longitudinal axis and terminates in, and leads toward the cover aperture to facilitate guiding of the surgical object through the cover aperture. The obturator assembly includes an obturator housing and an obturator member. The obturator housing has a housing base defining a leading end face, which defines a predetermined geometrical configuration corresponding to the predetermined geometrical configuration of the trailing end face of the cover to mate therewith upon assembly of the obturator assembly with the cannula assembly.
