Methods and apparatuses for wireless communication according to various tone plans are provided. In one aspect, a method includes generating a message for wireless communication according to a 1024-tone plan. The 1024-tone plan including 980 data tones and 16 pilot tones. The method further includes providing the message for transmission over an 80 MHz bandwidth.

A method includes modulating, at a first wireless device, a first signal based on a Gaussian minimum shift keying (GMSK) modulation scheme to generate a modulated signal. The method also includes amplifying, at the first wireless device, the modulated signal using a nonlinear power amplifier to generate an output signal. The method further includes transmitting, from the first wireless device to a second wireless device, an output signal generated based on the modulated signal via a wireless local area network (WLAN) that is compliant with an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer (IEEE) 802.11ah specification.

Systems and methods for communicating the length of a data unit and determining control data based thereon are described herein. In some aspects, a processor and a transmitter are provided. The processor may be configured to determine a measurement unit for representing the length of a data unit, the data unit including a midamble, the measurement unit being at least one of bytes or symbols. The processor may further generate a value indicating the length of the data unit based at least in part on the unit, an encoding scheme associated with the data unit, and a guard interval associated with the data unit. The generated value may be included in the data unit. The transmitter may be configured to transmit via wireless network the data unit to one or more devices.

Methods and devices for communicating in a communication system are described herein. One aspect of the subject matter described in the disclosure provides a method of communicating over one or more space-time streams. The method includes transmitting a precoded portion of a first stream with a bandwidth of 1 MHz or less. The method further includes transmitting, when there are at least two streams, a precoded portion of a second stream with a cyclic shift delay, relative to the first stream, of 4 μs. The method further includes transmitting, when there are at least three streams, a precoded portion of a third stream with a cyclic shift delay, relative to the first stream, of 1 μs. The method further includes transmitting, when there are at least four streams, a precoded portion of a fourth stream with a cyclic shift delay, relative to the first stream, of 5 μs.
