Abstract: Systems and techniques are disclosed to enhance the efficiency of available bandwidth between UEs and base stations. A UE transmits a sounding reference signal (SRS) to the base station. The base station characterizes the uplink channel based on the SRS received and, using reciprocity, applies the channel characterization for the downlink channel. As part of applying the channel information, the base station forms the beam to the UE based on the uplink channel information obtained from the SRS. The UE may include an array of antennas, each UE transmitting a different SRS that the base station receives and uses to characterize the downlink. Multiple UEs (or a single UE with multiple antennas) transmit SRS at the same time and frequency allocation (non-orthogonal), but with each sending its own unique SRS. Further, multiple UEs (or a single UE with multiple antennas) may send their SRS at unique time/frequency allocations (orthogonal).

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication. One method may include receiving, at a first base station, at least one clear channel assessment (CCA)-exempt transmission (CET) indicating timing information of at least a second base station over a shared spectrum. A timing of the first base station may be adjusted based on the received timing information of the second base station. Another method of wireless communication may include identifying a CCA slot assigned to a first base station for a frame, which may be associated with time synchronization, of a shared spectrum. A CCA may be performed at the identified CCA slot for the frame. When the CCA is successful, a first timing information of the first base station may be selectively transmitted during the frame. When the CCA is unsuccessful, a second timing information of a second base station may be listened for during the frame.

Abstract: Shared spectrum operation is disclosed for sharing spectrum among multiple wireless deployments. Coordination procedures between and among 2nd and 3rd Tier deployments include the use of beacons transmitted by the 2nd Tier for clearing access to spectrum occupied by 3rd Tier users and multiple 3rd Tier deployments sharing resources using a group-listen before talk (LBT) protocol, rather than a per-node LBT protocol. The 2nd Tier beacon signals are transmitted to alert 3rd Tier users of their presence, which, upon detection, will leave the particular spectrum within a predetermined time. For the shared LBT protocol, the 3rd Tier deployments share the channel with each other through an LBT with random backoff, in which the start time of clear channel assessment (CCA) procedure and the random backoff values are synchronized among nodes of the same deployment.

Abstract: A method, a computer program product, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus determines a degree of a link based on interference observed from at least one other link, determines a priority of the link based on the determined degree, and decides whether to yield based on the determined priority. The priority of the link may further be based on a determined data rate of the link. The apparatus may transmit the priority to another device via a request to send (RTS) signal and/or a clear to send (CTS) signal. The apparatus may also determine a priority associated with an active link and decide whether to yield to the active link by comparing the determined priority of the link with the priority of the active link.

Abstract: Resource mapping and coding schemes to handle bursty interference are disclosed that provide for spreading the modulated symbols for one or more transmission code words over more symbols in the time-frequency transmission stream. Certain aspects allow for the modulated symbols to be based on bits from more than one code word. Other aspects also provide for re-mapping code word transmission sequences for re-transmissions based on the number of re-transmissions requested by the receiver. Additional aspects provide for layered coding that uses a lower fixed-size constellation to encode/decode transmissions in a layered manner in order to achieve a larger-size constellation encoding. The layered encoding process allows the transmitter and receiver to use different coding rates for each coding layer. The layered encoding process also allows interference from neighboring cells to be canceled without knowledge of the actual constellation used to code the interfering neighboring signal.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses are described for wireless communication at a cell. The cell may transmit, from the cell to a plurality of neighboring cells, a frame configuration message. The frame configuration message may identify the current frame as a switching frame capable of dynamically switching a communication direction. The cell may switch, based at least in part on the frame configuration message, a communication direction between the cell and a user equipment (UE) for at least a portion of the current frame. The cell may communicate with the UE during the current frame according to the switched communication direction.
