Abstract: The present disclosure is related to systems and methods for detecting and disabling operations of access point impersonators in a network. In one aspect, a method includes receiving, at a network controller of a network, beacon reports from a plurality of access points; determining, by the network controller, one or more target areas with at least one potential access point impersonator operating therein; sending, by the network controller, on-demand beacon requests to one or more of the plurality of access points with corresponding coverage areas overlapping with the one or more target areas; receiving, at the network controller, responses to the on-demand beacon requests from the one or more of the plurality of access points; and determining, by the network controller, at least one access point impersonator based on the responses.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a process determines how often client devices roam from a given access point (AP) to each particular neighbor AP of a plurality of neighbor APs of the given AP, and correspondingly determines a roaming distance from the given AP to each particular neighbor AP, the roaming distance being shorter for neighbor APs roamed to more often, and longer for neighbor APs roamed to less often, within a given interval. Successful but temporary roams to the plurality of neighbor APs may also be detected and removed from consideration in the roaming distance to that particular neighbor AP. The process then generates a proximity list of one or more of the neighboring APs having the shortest roaming distances, and feeds the proximity list to the given AP to cause the given AP to provide the proximity list to client devices for optimized client roaming.

Abstract: A method includes obtaining performance characterization values from endpoints managed by a first fog node at a first hierarchical level in a hierarchy of fog nodes. The method includes changing a first operating characteristic of the wireless network based on the performance characterization values. The first operating characteristic affects the operation of one or more of the endpoints. The method includes transmitting a portion of the performance characterization values to a second fog node at a second hierarchical level in the hierarchy of fog nodes. The method includes changing a second operating characteristic of the wireless network based on an instruction from the second fog node. The second operating characteristic affects the operation of the first fog node and/or other fog nodes at the first hierarchical level. Changing one or more of the first operating characteristic and the second operating characteristic satisfies an operating threshold for the wireless network.

Abstract: A method for providing enhanced visibility in heterogeneous network. The method comprises receiving, at a networking device housing a cellular base station and a WLAN access point, cellular network traffic from an electronic device. The method further comprises receiving, at the networking device, WLAN traffic from the electronic device and encapsulating, at the networking device, the cellular network traffic and the WLAN traffic using a common protocol. The method further comprises transmitting the encapsulated cellular traffic and the encapsulated WLAN traffic to a controller.

Abstract: Various implementations disclosed herein enable transforming mutable wireless coverage areas using network coverage vehicles (NVCs) that are orchestrated by a network coverage controller. In various implementations, the method includes receiving coverage area performance characterization values from NCVs configured to provide a plurality of mutable wireless coverage areas. In various implementations, an arrangement of the mutable wireless coverage areas mutably defines the service area, which changes in accordance with changes to the arrangement of the mutable wireless coverage areas. In various implementations, the method also includes determining NCV operation adjustments for some of the NCVs based on the received coverage area performance characterization values in accordance with a service performance metric; and, altering an arrangement of one or more of the plurality of mutable wireless coverage areas within the service area by providing the NCV operation adjustments to some of the NCVs.

Abstract: An example method is provided in one example embodiment and may include requesting, by a user equipment (UE), a profile associated with a subscriber that provides information to facilitate automatic association of the UE with one or more access points of a wireless network, wherein the requesting includes requesting the profile using a Generic Advertisement Service (GAS) Initial Request frame; and sending the profile to the UE using a GAS Initial Response frame. The method can include configuring a Vendor Specific Information Element (VSIE) within an Advertisement Protocol Identifier for the GAS Initial Request frame and configuring the VSIE to indicate an Access Network Query Protocol (ANQP) query for the profile. The method can also include configuring another VSIE within an Advertisement Protocol Identifier for the GAS Initial Response frame and configuring the VSIE to indicate an ANQP query response including the profile.
