    Abstract: A cartridge for an air-cooled plasma arc torch is provided. The cartridge includes a swirl ring having a molded thermoplastic elongated body with a distal end, a proximal end, and a hollow portion configured to receive an electrode. The swirl ring also has a plurality of gas flow openings defined by the distal end of the elongated body and configured to impart a swirling motion to a plasma gas flow for the plasma arc torch. The swirl ring further includes a nozzle retention feature on a surface of the elongated body at the distal end for retaining a nozzle to the elongated body. The cartridge further includes a cap affixed to the proximal end of the elongated body of the swirl ring for substantially closing the proximal end of the elongated body.

    Abstract: A method of assembling an electrode by securing together an emitter of the electrode inside an emitter holder while at the same time securing together the emitter holder inside a distal end of a tubular body of the electrode.     Abstract: The present inventive concept relates to a device for treating an exhaust gas, and more particularly, to a plasma device capable of, even when connected to a vacuum pump, extending a lifetime of an electrode of a plasma torch. In the plasma device according to the present inventive concept, since an orifice is installed in a connection unit for connection with a vacuum pump to prevent a decrease in pressure of the vacuum pump, a pressure of a plasma reaction unit including the plasma torch of the plasma device can be maintained similar to normal pressure, thereby reducing the wear of a tungsten electrode in the plasma torch to extend a lifetime of the electrode.

    Abstract: A plasma coating an object has an object profile, and includes the steps of: providing a replaceable shield including a jet inlet, a nozzle outlet and a sidewall extending from the jet inlet to the nozzle outlet; detachably attaching the replaceable shield to a jet outlet of a plasma jet generator; placing the object at the nozzle outlet such that the object profile fits closely to the nozzle outlet edge to within a distance of at least 0.1 mm and at most 5 mm; plasma coating the object with a low-temperature, oxygen-free plasma at an operating pressure which is higher than the atmospheric pressure by providing a plasma jet in the shield via the plasma jet generator and injecting coating precursors in the plasma jet in the shield; identifying the provided shield prior to providing the plasma jet.

    Abstract: A plasma cutting system includes a power supply that outputs first and second plasma cutting currents. A torch is connected to the power supply and includes a first cathode that receives the first plasma cutting current, a first electrode and swirl ring, a second cathode that receives the second plasma cutting current, and a second electrode and swirl ring. The torch simultaneously generates a first and second plasma arcs from the electrodes. A gas controller is configured to separately control a flow of a first plasma gas to the first swirl ring and a flow of a second plasma gas flow to the second swirl ring. A torch actuator moves the torch during cutting, and includes a motor having a hollow shaft rotor for rotating the torch during cutting. A motion controller is operatively connected to the torch actuator to control movements of the torch during cutting.

    Abstract: An electrode for a consumable cartridge of a plasma arc torch is provided. The electrode comprises a substantially hollow body defining a proximal end, a distal end and a longitudinal axis extending therebetween. The electrode also includes a plurality of flanges, including a proximal flange and a distal flange, disposed circumferentially about an external surface of the hollow body and extending radially outward. Each flange defines one or more holes configured to conduct a gas flow therethrough along the external surface of the hollow body. The one or more holes on the proximal flange define a first combined cross-sectional flow area that is different from a second combined cross-sectional flow area defined by the one or more holes on the distal flange.
