An electromagnetic sound generator is proposed that can be easily and inexpensively fabricated for producing an indicating sound to enable use in an automobile or other similar environment. A spool (2) on which a coil (3) has been wound, a core (4) that is movable up and down, and a round spring (5) are installed inside a cup-shaped yoke (1); whereby supplying or cutting off the supply of current to the coil (3) causes the core (4) to strike, in single beats in accordance with drive, against the yoke (1) itself or on the side of spring (5) to produce a sound. The yoke (1), which is the magnetic circuit for driving, also serves as a sound generator, and the provision of openings such as slits in the upper surface and side surfaces of the cup-shaped yoke (1) enhances sound effects such as the tone, volume and direction of emission of the generated sound. When converting a directional indicator for an automobile to electronic circuits, the present invention enables the production of a sound for checking operation of the directional indicator that resembles the sound of a relay-type directional indicator.

A driving apparatus is provided for a vibration type motor which obtains a driving force by applying a periodic signal to an electro-mechanical energy conversion element portion of the vibration type motor. When the driven amount of the vibration type motor is small, the vibration type motor is driven by a high voltage in a frequency range with a high lower limit as compared with a case wherein the driven amount is not small, thereby making it possible to realize high-speed focusing and suppress electric power consumption.

A force control system for an electromagnetic actuator includes an observer that outputs signals representing the instantaneous position and velocity of a movable member, and a position controller that receives the output of the observer and signals representing a desired position and a desired velocity. The position controller compares the output of the observer with the desired position and velocity signals to generate position and velocity error signals. The position controller further generates force command signals required to position the movable member at the desired position with the desired velocity based on the position and velocity error signals. The position component may be eliminated from the force command signals, resulting in controlling only the velocity of the movable member. In accordance with other aspects of the invention, a force control system for an electromagnetic actuator includes a flux observer that low-pass filters the voltage applied to phase coils to estimate the flux of the phase coil and provide a signal representing the estimated flux at the output.

A torque motor comprises a rotor having a pair of permanent magnet groups, and a pair of stator cores. Each magnet group includes a plurality of plate or rod-shaped permanent magnets arranged in a circumferential direction. The magnet groups are arranged asymmetrically with respect to a rotary axis of the rotor. That is, one magnet group is displaced one-half angle of the pitch angle of each permanent magnet from the symmetric position of the other magnet group with respect to the rotary axis of the rotor. Alternatively, the stator cores are arranged asymmetrically with respect to the rotary axis of the rotor so that a front end of one stator core is displaced from the symmetric position of a front end of the other stator core in the circumferential direction. A cylindrical magnetic cover is fitted on the rotor to cover the permanent magnets circumferentially.
