A ball valve cartridge is disclosed. It is especially well suited for freezeless hydrant applications and any other application where it is positioned remotely from a handle or other actuating element. The cartridge contains a ball valve element and an internal stem with a key for rotating the ball valve element between open and closed positions. The stem has rotational stop elements that limit rotational movement of the stem and the ball valve element. In a yard hydrant application, a drain valve can be added to regulate the opening and closing of the drain hole. It has an operational range of a quarter turn or ninety degrees.

A freezeless wall hydrant has a normally horizontal fluid inlet tube with an interior end and exterior end. A hollow valve fitting is rigidly secured to the interior end of the inlet tube for a connection to a source of pressurized fluid. A movable ball is located with a fluid conduit that extends from the interior of the inlet tube to the location of the potable water source. When the water pressure inside the inlet tube increases because of the presence of ice, the high pressure of such water moves the ball to open fluid flow of the high pressure fluid to the source of potable water which will be at a lower pressure, thus reducing the fluid pressure within the inlet tube and saving it from rupture.

A freezeless wall hydrant for delivery of hot or cold water from a single discharge conduit has first and second fluid inlet pipes in parallel spaced relation. The pipes have forward and rearward ends and are connected respectively to sources of hot and cold pressurized water. A laterally extending fluid conduit member connects the forward ends of the first and second fluid inlet pipes and is in communication therewith. A fluid closure valve is located in the rearward ends of each of the first and second fluid pipes. A check valve is in each of the pipes forwardly of the fluid closure valves and is capable of permitting fluid flow in the pipes in a direction from the closure valve, but prevents fluid flow towards the closure valves. A valve rod having forward and rearward ends rotatably extends through the laterally extending fluid conduit and through the forward ends of the first and second inlet pipes and has one end operatively connected to the check valves in the rearward ends of the fluid inlet pipes. A handle is located on a protruding forward end of the valve rods to permit the manual movement of the rods to open or close the fluid closure valves. A fluid exit conduit has a rearward end in communication with the laterally extending fluid conduit and extends forwardly and downwardly and terminates in a hose threaded portion. A check valve is located in the fluid exit conduit to prevent fluid flow therein only towards the forward end of the fluid exit conduit.

An adjustable anti-freeze faucet assembly for mounting within a wall of the building comprises a telescoping water pipe with pieces configured for telescopic sliding movement to vary the length of the pipe, a faucet spout coupled to an outlet end of the pipe and a valve body mounted within the pipe proximate an inlet end. A valve handle is mounted proximate the pipe outlet end near the faucet spout, and a telescoping valve control stem extends in the pipe from the valve handle to the valve body. The control stem telescopes with the length of the pipe such that the valve body is maintained generally stationary with respect to the pipe length. When the faucet assembly is installed, the faucet spout and valve handle are at the cold outside surface, while the valve body is maintained proximate the warm inside surface of the building wall to prevent freezing of the water in the valve body and pipe.

An anti-siphon and freezeless water hydrant comprises a unitary cast metal housing which incorporates a hose bib, and a drain opening cylinder equipped with drain orifices and a drain valve seat. The housing is shaped and labeled to assure installation so that the hose bib is higher than the drain opening cylinder. A unitary valve stem includes an integral drain valve element which selectively engages or disengages the inside of the drain opening cylinder to shut off or open the drain orifices and a water valve element which selectively engages or disengages a water valve seat within the hydrant to act as a water valve. When the water valve is fully closed, the drain valve element opens the drain opening cylinder to permit water trapped within the hydrant to drain through the the drain orifices. The hose bib is equipped with a vacuum valve to prevent back-siphoning of fluids from a hose attached to the hydrant.

Freeze-proof hydrants having a housing, the first end thereof having a fitting for flow communication with a pressurized liquid source. There is a passageway in the housing for liquid flow, a back flow preventer in the passageway and a drain in the housing. A removable cartridge is located in the passageway between the back flow preventer and the first end of the housing. The cartridge has a casing having a passageway therein, a drain therein with a drain channel and at least one hole in the drain channel which extends through the casing, arrangement for retaining the removable cartridge in the passageway, and a plunger in the passageway which can be moved from an open or liquid flowing position to a closed or liquid draining position, and vice versa. The plunger has a plunger head which blocks the passageway in the closed position and which allows liquid flow in the passageway in the open position. The plunger has a body, to which the plunger head is connected, which has at least one passageway therethrough for liquid flow (but which is not in the wall thereof). The plunger blocks the two drains when in the open position. There is communication between the two drains when the plunger is in the closed position. There is also valve operating apparatus, located in the housing so as not to block the liquid flow in the passageway, to move the plunger between the open and closed position.
