    摘要： HIDES MAY BE CURED AND PRETANNED BY: TREATING RAW HIDES WITH A SODIUM HYDROXIDE SOLUTION SO AS TO REACT THE LIPID MATERIAL IN ORDER TO CAUSE FORMATION OF SOAPS, LIMITED ATTACK ON PROTEIN MATERIAL PRESENT IN THEHIDES, AND SWELLING OF THE COLLAGEN IN THE HIDES, ADDING SODIUM CHLORIDE TO THE SODIUM HYDROXIDE SOLUTION IN ORDER TO ENABLE THIS SALT TO BE TAKEN UP FROM THE SOLUTION BY THE HIDES, CAUSING AN INCREASE IN THE STRENGTH OF THE SWOLLEN COLLAGEN, DEHAIRING THE HIDES, TREATING THE HIDES WITH SODIUM SULPHITE SOLUTION SO AS TO ADD STRENGTH TO THE SWOLLEN COLLAGEN, TREATING THE HIDES WITH A MIXTURE OF A QUATERNARY AMMONIUM SALT, AND A CALCIUM SALT IN ORDER TO PRECIPITATE ANY SOAPS PRESENT AND TO PLACE THE AMMONIUM SALT WITHIN THE REMAINING HIDE MATERIAL AND TO SEPARATE FASCIA TISSUE FROM THE REMAINING HIDE MATERIAL, AND PICKLING THE HIDES WITH AN ACID SOLUTION SO AS TO EFFECT A SIZE REDUCTION AND STRENGTHENING OF THE SWOLLEN COLLAGEN. IF DESIRED, THE HIDES MAY BE BATED PRIOR TO BEING PICKLED. THE SO-CURED HIDES HAVE PROPERTIES WHICH ARE RELATED TO THE PROPERTIES OF THE AMMONIUM SALT. THE RESULTING HIDES CAN BE FURTHER TREATED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CONVENTIONAL TANNING PRATICES.

    摘要： A method for preserving hides, skins and pelts prior to tanning, without salt-curing. The hides are fatliquored, pickled and dried, all prior to tanning. The method may include the preliminary steps of washing, fleshing, liming and unhairing followed by the steps of fatliquoring, deliming, bating, pickling and drying. The method avoids the environmental damage caused by salt-curing. The treated hides are dry, flexible and readily rehydrated for further processing.

    摘要： The present invention is related to the use of a new conditioning agent for treating pelts for tanning. This conditioning agent consists in a composition of modified aldehydes, carboxylic acids or polycarboxylic acids and additives. The conditioning agent is used for replacing the steps of deliming and pickling in the pelts treatment. The action of the product can eliminate the step of basification when the tanning is made with chromium salts. The objective of the present invention is the use of a novel composition that can replace the steps of deliming, step 6, and pickling, step 8, described before for one just step called conditioning The proposed system, neutralizes the alkalinity and hence removes the solubility of Calcium from the liming operation attached in the pelt. The system described is obtained from functional aldehydes with the general formulation as following: The system comprises functional aldehydes to which are added a combination or just one of the following chemicals: mono, di, tri and polycarboxilic acids; anhydrides: fumaric, maleic and ftalic anhydrides of dicarboxilic acids that contains at least 2 to 8 carbon atoms; esters of mono, di, tri and polycarboxilic acids; EDTA; boric acid and sodium and calcium tripolyphosphates As solvents to stabilize the system it is used one or a mixture of the following compounds: water, branched or non-branched aliphatic alcohol, glycols and polyols.
