摘要: The present invention concerns a method for producing an image in the edge of a volume of paper sheets. The invention can be used for numerous stationary products, note pads, exercise books, and the like. In the present invention, the images are printed not on the edges but on the paper surface. The method comprises a series of steps: printing-realigning-guillotining. The invention also concerns the insertion of a segmented image, systematically in edges and added in the make-up of a volume, for use in a complex technological process.

摘要: An informational item processing apparatus is provided with a conveyor unit that transports a plurality of informational items having printed information thereon from a first location to a second location; an adhesive applicator that applies adhesive to a plurality of the informational items as the informational items pass from the first location to the second location; and a controller operatively coupled to the adhesive applicator, the controller comprising a processor and a programmed circuit. The controller is programmed to cause the adhesive applicator to successively apply adhesive to each of a preselected number of informational items that consecutively pass from the first location to the second location; the controller is programmed to cause the adhesive applicator not to apply adhesive to an informational item that immediately follows the preselected number of informational items to which adhesive was applied; and the controller is programmed to successively apply adhesive to a preselected number of informational items that consecutively follow the informational item to which adhesive was not applied.

摘要: A method of producing a folded item having printed information thereon to provide information to the user of a product is disclosed. The method comprises (a) folding the sheet by making a first fold in the sheet in a direction parallel to a first direction; (b) folding the sheet by making a second fold in the sheet in a direction parallel to the first direction to form a first folded article having a first end and a second end opposite the first end; (c) making a plurality of transverse folds in the first folded article in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction to form a second folded article having a first end, a second end, a first portion adjacent the first end of the second folded article, and a second portion adjacent the second end of the second folded article; (d) folding the second folded article by making an additional fold in a direction parallel to the second direction to produce a third folded article having a first end, a second end, and a plurality of intermediate portions disposed between the first and second ends of the third folded article; (e) depositing an adhesive on a portion of the third folded article; and (f) making a final fold in the third folded article in a direction parallel to the second direction to form the folded item so that a portion of the third folded article is wrapped around the intermediate portions of the third folded article.

摘要: A method of producing a folded item having printed information thereon to provide information to the user of a product is disclosed. The method comprises (a) forming a first article having a first end, a second end, a length along a first direction, and a width along a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, the first article having a plurality of first elongate sheet portions and a plurality of second elongate sheet portions, each of the first elongate sheet portions having a first end and a second end, and each of the second elongate sheet portions having a first end and a second end, each of the first ends of the first elongate sheet portions being joined to a respective one of the first ends of the second elongate sheet portions at a respective fold coinciding with the first end of the first article so that the first end of the first article has no exterior unfolded sheet edges, each of the respective folds being parallel to the second direction; (b) folding the first article by making a first transverse fold in the first article to form a second article, the first transverse fold being parallel to the second direction and being made so that the second end of the first article is disposed between the first end of the first article and the first transverse fold; (c) depositing an adhesive on a portion of the second article; and (d) folding the second article by making a second transverse fold in the second article to form the folded item, the second transverse fold being parallel to the second direction so that the folded item has no exterior unfolded sheet edges which lie in a direction parallel to the second direction, the thickness of the sheet being such that when the folds in the first and second directions are made, the folds will cause the folded item to have a thickness of 0.25 inches or greater.

摘要: A single or multi-functional reference marker apparatus for paginated and non-paginated publications, portfolios and other supporting substrates. The reference marker apparatus (10) having one or more other applications as receptacle marker, index marker, game marker and coupon marker and may carry subordinate reference marker(s) (18). The apparatus consisting of at least one reference marker is formed from multi-faced substrate including the support/covering substrate(s) (21) which may be articulated and/or non-articulated to the reference marker or markers (18). Each reference marker having at least one attaching area on at least one face of at least one mounting portion of the multi-faced substrate; the at least one mounting adhesive layer being attached/applied to such attaching area, another adhesive layer (22) or substrate carrier (22C). Mounting portion(s) may be hingedly connected to the reference marker by at least one foldable line (26A). Further, at least one separable line (24, 25, 26) and/or at least one foldable line may integrally form at least one hingedly/non-hingedly connected and partially detachable subordinate marker member from the multi-faced substrate (19, 20). The reference marker being adhesively mountingly engageable to at least one publication substrate, portfolio substrate and/or supporting substrate.

摘要: An electronic book apparatus that comprises multiple pages (122) with printed information (126), a visual signal (125) for identifying the printed information in a sequentially organized manner, a synchronized audio signal (154) for describing and further identifying the information concurrently with the visual signal, and a switch (127) for electronically controlling the generation and transmission of these signals when each particular page is opened for viewing. Each page of the electronic book includes a laminated sheet (124), on which the printed material is arranged, and an electronic backdrop (121) containing the visual signal for display through the laminated sheet. Separate intelligent electronics (160) in the spine (140) and top portion (150) of the book, coupled to the a switch, activate the illuminating circuitry and a voice synthesizer (168) that are synchronized and sequenced to produce a concurrent visual and audio enhancement of the printed matter being viewed on the page.
