A feed block unit for a hot-runner feed system of a pressure die-casting machine includes a block body in which is incorporated at least one melt-conveying channel running out of the block body by way of a sprue orifice close to the gate, and a heating system, integrated into the block body, for the at least one melt-conveying channel. The feed block unit is designed as a structural unit which is insertable independently into a respective casting mould, and/or the heating system integrated therein includes at least a first heating device for supply channel heating and a second heating device, which can be controlled independently of the first heating device, for sprue channel heating. With this modular hot-runner feed system, individual temperature profiles can be predetermined and set for the respective feed block unit. A control device authorizes a mould-filling operating to take place dependent on whether temperatures detected in the hot-runner feed system lie within predeterminable setpoint temperature ranges.

The invention relates to a method of and apparatus for providing heat to a molten metal flowing through metal-conveying apparatus. The apparatus includes a molten metal-conveying channel, an enclosure for receiving and circulating combustion gases while preventing entry of the gases into said channel, a heat-conductive body of material separating at least part of the channel from the enclosure; and a combustion device for generating combustion gases and delivering the gases to the enclosure. Heat from the combustion gases is used to heat molten metal held in the channel, while preventing contact between the combustion gases and the molten metal. The body of material may be a trough used to form the channel, a tube for conveying the molten metal, or a tube acting as the enclosure, or the like.

A device for producing nonferrous metal diecast parts is described in which a hot-duct gate system is disposed in front of mold cavities, by means of which hot-duct gate system, it is possible to guide the hot molten metal closely in front of the mold cavities and to maintain it in the liquid condition until the next shot. As a result, solidified overflows or runner ducts and pressing residues are avoided. The new device can therefore operate in a very economical and precise manner.

A battery assembling method includes a lead dispenser/heater unit, cover positioner, container positioner, and lead feeder. A battery container with battery plates contained therein is retained by the container positioner. A battery cover is retained by the cover positioner. Molten lead is retained within the lead dispenser/heater unit. The exposed areas of the lead dispenser/heater unit are preferably flooded with an inert gas to prevent drossing of the molten lead. A container heating platen is disposed on a top of the lead dispenser/heater unit and a cover heating platen on a bottom thereof. The container positioner brings the battery container in contact with the container heating platen and the cover positioner brings the battery cover in contact with the cover heating platen. Molten lead is dispensed into the battery cover; the lead dispenser/heater unit is withdrawn; and the battery container is sealed against the battery cover while the lugs of the battery plates are inserted into molten lead in the battery cover. The lead dispenser/heater unit is filled with lead from a lead feeder.

Advantageously, the portion of the mold defining the cavity and at least the distal end of the delivery chute (i.e., those portions surrounded by the RF coil) are formed of materials that are substantially insensitive to heating by RF induction so that the metal billet is melted and molded at approximately the same time.

The metal flows in the lower part of the launder construction in a channel defined by a refractory mass, the launder being heat-insulated so that, in operating conditions, the metal forms a solid zone in the porous refractory mass. The essential features of the launder construction include a cover part that is provided with electrical resistors, ensuring that the metal remains melted and the launder sufficiently hot throughout the process, and a gas burner that prevents the metal from cooling under the effect of the gas flowing in the launder channel.
