    Abstract: A machine for modifying a workpiece oriented lengthwise along an X-axis, including a support frame having aligned tracks arcuate about the X-axis, and rails supported on the arcuate tracks for selective rotation together about the X-axis. A pressing mechanism is adapted to press a workpiece tool and an associated support block together along a pressing axis to modify a portion of a workpiece located therebetween, with the pressing mechanism being supported on linear tracks on the rails for selective linear motion along the rails substantially transverse to the X-axis. A drive is adapted to selectively position the rails and the pressing mechanism on the tracks.

    Abstract: An exemplary method for making a metallic workpiece includes: (a) providing a metallic sheet and a punching machine, wherein the metallic sheet comprises a curved portion and a plurality of predetermined punching areas; the punching machine comprises a die set, a lifter, at least one punch blade; (b) placing the metallic sheet on the die set; (c) adjusting a position of the metallic sheet for making a longitudinal center axis of the punch blade perpendicular to a plane tangential to a center of the predetermined punching areas; (d) applying the lifter to press down, and the punch blade punching one of the predetermined punching areas out of the metallic sheet; and (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) appropriately in turn to form a plurality of punched holes in the curved portion of the metallic sheet. The metallic workpiece made by the present method is also provided.

    Abstract: A manufacturing method is proposed for a bracket which is formed by bending a flat plate (11) into a predetermined shape including a pair of flat parts (4, 5a) disposed in parallel with each other. The pair of flat parts (4, 5a) has a through-hole (6, 6a, 6b) for inserting a bolt. The method comprises forming a weak portion (12, 14) in advance in the flat plate (11) in positions corresponding to a through-hole (6, 6a, 6b). The weak portion (12, 14) is a portion which is structurally weaker than an adjacent portion of the plate (11). The method further comprises bending the flat plate (11) into the predetermined shape, and forming the through-holes (6, 6a, 6b) by stamping out the weak portion (12, 14).     Abstract: A press mounted cam has a slide guided on an adapter by structural features including as one or more T blocks fixed to the slide and received in a respective channel formed in the adapter. In an aerial cam embodiment, a vertical clearance space is provided between the T block and adapter channel such that positive driving engagement between cam surfaces on the slide and the adapter is momentarily delayed after the initial engagement of the slide and driver surfaces to let the momentum of the slide be absorbed prior to the beginning of positive driving by the press motion, reducing shock and noise. The slide is laterally located with respect to the driver by an upwardly projecting locator-guide key on the driver received in a central channel in the slide. A positive return is provided by engagement of a driver key having T features received in a T-shaped slide channel and captured therein when the slide is driven laterally. This engagement creates a positive return of the slide when the press upper platen is raised.

    Abstract: A tool mounting and method for adjustably mounting a tool holder on a cam slide of a press mounted cam also including an adapter body and driver. The tool mounting includes a tooling plate adjustably secured to the cam slide by a series of dowel pins closely fit in dowel pin openings in the cam slide and loosely fit in dowel pin holes in the tooling plate to allow vertical and horizontal adjustment. A channel extends to each oversized dowel pin opening to enable injection of a setting material to lock the tooling plate in its adjusted position after being aligned with a die opening using a pilot installed in a tool holder mounted on one side of the tooling plate. An alignment plate is installed over the other side to cover the channel to each oversized dowel pin hole and allow removal and replacement of the tooling plate without disturbing the adjusted position on the tooling plates.
