Provided are an apparatus and a method that are capable of performing reliable display control with no caption display interruption of the TTML caption data. Specifically, when a set value of the caption display end time specification attribute of the TTML caption data is the continuous display instruction value, memory storing and display processing of caption data currently displayed are continued even after reproduction end timing of an image file, and switching processing of TTML caption data files is performed. When a set value of the caption display start time specification attribute of the TTML caption data is the continuous display instruction value, whether or not there is a text string, display processing of the text string is continued, is determined, and when there is the text string, the displayed text is continuously displayed. With the processing, it is possible to achieve display control with no caption display interruption of the TTML caption data.

Provided is a reception apparatus, including: a reception unit that receives a broadcast wave of digital broadcasting using an IP (Internet Protocol) transmission system; a communication unit that receives first signaling information for acquiring broadcast content transmitted by the broadcast wave through communication with a server via a network; an acquisition unit that acquires, on the basis of the first signaling information, a physical parameter used in a physical layer in a hierarchy of a protocol of the IP transmission system; and a control unit that controls, on the basis of the physical parameter, operations of respective units that perform channel selection processing. Provided is a reception apparatus, including: a reception unit that receives a broadcast wave of digital broadcasting using an IP (Internet Protocol) transmission system; and a filtering processing unit that performs filtering processing on a packet by using filtering information, the filtering information being provided in a header of the packet, the packet being transmitted in a baseband stream in a first layer via the broadcast wave, the first layer being lower than an IP layer in a hierarchy of a protocol of the IP transmission system. A device and a method for realizing accurate TTML subtitle data display control are provided. A TTML subtitle data storage packet storing TTML subtitle data as payload of a MMT packet defined in the MMT format, and a signaling message including subtitle-related information corresponding to the TTML subtitle data are transmitted from a transmission device to a reception device. The signaling message defines therein a time mode (TMD) as subtitle display timing control mode, and an operation mode (OPM) of selectively performing instant display of subtitles or TTML description-based display thereof, and the reception device can conduct display control in a designated mode.
