Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may measure, using one or more receive beams, a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) transmitted on a transmit beam of the CSI-RS according to a beam management configuration for periodic CSI-RSs, where the UE performs measurements according to a static beam sweeping schedule or a dynamic beam sweeping schedule associated with the transmit beam of the CSI-RS based at least in part on the beam management configuration. In some aspects, the UE may transmit a measurement report indicating one or more measurements of the CSI-RS based at least in part on measuring the CSI-RS. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to wireless communications, and more particularly, to techniques for adaptively updating one or more parameters, such as power hysteresis, for determining whether beam switching should be performed. A user equipment (UE) may assess a first beam quality of a first beam for communications with a network entity and a second beam quality of a second beam. The UE adjusts a value of power hysteresis based on one or more conditions, such as whether the UE is mobile and/or the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the first beam is less than a threshold. Based on the adjusted value of power hysteresis, the UE may switch from the first beam to the second beam if a difference between the second beam quality and the first beam quality is greater than the adjusted value of power hysteresis.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may communicate with a base station using a first beam set of a group of beam sets, where each beam set includes a beam from a first set of beams with a first polarization and a beam from a second set of beams with a second polarization. The UE may receive a set of reference signals corresponding to a set of transmit beams of the base station, where the UE receives at least one reference signal for each beam of the first and second sets of beams. The UE may select a second beam set from the group of beam sets based on one or more parameters associated with the second beam set and based on receiving the set of reference signals, and may communicate with the base station using the selected beam set.

Abstract: Dynamic User Equipment (UE) beam switching for millimeter wave (mmWave) measurements in asynchronous networks is discussed in which a UE configured with a plurality of UE beams receives timing information of detected cells in an asynchronous network, and calculates, based on the timing information, a maximum offset for the detected cells indicating a timing difference between a pair of cells of the detected cells that is larger than a timing difference between any other pair of the detected cells. A UE beam switch from a UE beam to another UE beam of the plurality of beams is scheduled based on the maximum offset, which includes using the maximum offset to determine how often the UE beam switch can be performed. Other aspects and features are also claimed and described.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A wireless device such as a user equipment (UE) may determine a set of scheduled synchronization signal transmission times. A first subset of the set of scheduled synchronization signal transmission times may be allocated for dynamic measurement. The wireless device may select at least one candidate beam from a set of candidate beams for a dynamic measurement during one of the transmission times in the first subset. The at least one candidate beam may be selected based at least in part on a fairness metric, a signal strength metric, a timing metric, or a combination thereof. The wireless device may perform a measure procedure on the selected at least one candidate beam and may transmit a measurement report based at least in part on the measure procedure to another wireless device (e.g., a base station).

Abstract: The choice of a transmit (Tx)-Receive (Rx) beam pair out of many available beam pairs between a base station and a millimeter wave (mmW)-capable UE is directly related to the performance of transmission between the base station and the UE. A method, apparatus, and computer-readable medium at a transmitting user equipment (UE) capable of (mmW) communication are disclosed to determine a new serving Tx-Rx beam pair based on cumulative strengths of a plurality of Tx-Rx beam pairs. The UE may iteratively perform a process of, until a predetermined number of synchronization cycles is reached: selecting one of the plurality of Transmit (Tx)-Receive (Rx) beam pairs based at least in part on a scheduling opportunity value of the selected Tx-Rx beam pair that has not been measured for a current synchronization period; and measuring a strength of the selected Tx-Rx beam pair.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for receive beam switching for neighbor cell measurement. A method that may be performed by a user equipment (UE) includes determining a first receive beam of a plurality of receive beams to use for reception during a first synchronization signal block (SSB) duration within a synchronization signal block set (SSBS) duration. The method includes determining a second receive beam of the plurality of receive beams to use for reception during a second SSB duration within the SSBS duration. The UE may measure one or more first signals transmitted by a serving cell and/or one or more neighbor cells with the first receive beam during the first SSB duration and measure one or more second signals transmitted by the serving cell and/or the one or more neighbor cells with the second receive beam during the second SSB duration.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A network entity may transmit a reference signal to a user equipment (UE). The UE may measure, during a first time period and according to a first periodicity, the reference signal using a first beam associated with cell search. The UE may determine that a movement of the UE satisfies a movement threshold value based on an indication from a motion sensor. Additionally, the UE may determine that a channel metric fails to satisfy a threshold. In response, the UE may measure, during a second time period, the reference signal using the first beam according to a second periodicity that is greater than the first periodicity and corresponds to a more frequent measurement of the reference signal using the first beam than the first periodicity.
