    Abstract: Certain aspects relate to methods and apparatus for wireless communications, comprising determining to use a reduced paging cycle to page a user equipment (UE) of a first type that supports the reduced paging cycle, the reduced paging cycle having a shorter period relative to a paging cycle used with UEs of a second type which do not support the reduced paging cycle, and paging the UE of the first type in accordance with the reduced paging cycle. Certain aspects relate to methods and apparatus for conveying system information by a base station, comprising broadcasting a first system information common to each cell of a group of cells in an area and broadcasting a second system information that can vary between cells in the group of cells, wherein the second system information is broadcast more frequently than the first system information.

    Abstract: Techniques for uplink transmission management in a wireless communications system are described herein. An example method may include receiving an explicit uplink grant that indicates one or more implicit uplink grants. In an aspect, the example method may include performing a first clear channel assessment (CCA) in response to the explicit uplink grant in a first time slot. In another aspect, the example method may include, if the first CCA fails, sequentially performing one or more additional CCAs respectively in one or more time slots subsequent to the first time slot in response to the one or more implicit uplink grants, and transmitting the PDU over the unlicensed or shared spectrum and in a time slot subsequent to the time slot in which one of the one or more additional CCAs succeeds.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication. A base station may configure a set of timing adjustment groups (TAGs) and a set of PUCCH cell groups for a user equipment (UE). The serving cells in the TAGs may be associated with different PUCCH cell groups. The UE may initiate a time alignment timer for each TAG, and if the timer expires prior to receiving a timing adjustment command, the UE may initiate a timing alignment procedure for a subset of serving cells based on the association between the TAGs and the PUCCH cell groups.

    Abstract: Extended DRX (e-DRX) operation using hyper frame extension signaling are described. The hyper frame extension signaling may extend the system frame number (SFN) range while maintaining backward compatibility for legacy devices not configured to use the extended SFN range. The hyper-SFN extension signaling may include an index to a hyper-SFN transmitted as part of system information different than that used for transmission of the SFN. UEs configured to use the hyper-SFN may effectively use a longer or extended SFN range that includes the legacy SFN range and the hyper-SFN range. The hyper-SFN extension may be used in an extended idle DRX (eI-DRX) mode which may coexist with existing I-DRX mode on the same paging resources. Additionally or alternatively, paging may be differentiated for eI-DRX mode UEs using separate paging occasions or a new paging radio network temporary identifier (RNTI).

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) may be used for communication with various wireless communication devices, including machine-type communication (MTC) devices, to reduce overhead on control channels. Data transmissions scheduling using SPS techniques may be repeated and bundled together to effect coverage enhancement (CE) for devices with poor radio quality conditions. SPS communication may be used in both uplink and downlink transmissions. An SPS configuration may include a predefined number of scheduled transmission periods and a CE level, which may be established in either an SPS configuration message or as part of the SPS activation message from a base station. A device may identify the CE level of the transmissions and, in some cases, may determine the periodicity of the SPS based on the CE level. Bundled transmissions assigned with SPS may be prioritized with respect to one another or dynamically assigned resources.

    Abstract: Uplink power control techniques for ultra low latency in Long Term Evolution (LTE) devices are presented. For example, an example method for transmission power control is described that includes determining that a first uplink transmission and a second uplink transmission are scheduled for transmission during a symbol of a subframe. In an aspect, the first uplink transmission has a first transmission time interval (TTI) and a first transmission power and the second uplink transmission has a second TTI, the second TTI being different from the first TTI, and a second transmission power. Furthermore, the method may include determining that a power limitation condition is met for one or both of the first transmission power or the second transmission power and adjusting one or both of the first transmission power or the second transmission power based on a determination that the power limitation condition is met.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may establish a dynamic coverage enhancement (CE) configuration and then autonomously transition from one CE level to another while in idle mode. The network may blindly detect the CE change during a paging procedure. For example, a mobility management entity (MME) may store dynamic CE information, and it may provide the dynamic CE information to base stations when the UE is paged. In some cases, the base stations may autonomously retransmit paging messages at different CE levels based on the dynamic CE information. In other examples, the MME may direct the base station to retransmit at different CE levels.
