    Abstract: There is provided a subframe arrangement for use in wireless communications between a relay node and a base station and between a user equipment and at least one of the base station and relay node, the subframe arrangement comprising a plurality of symbols and a downlink control portion comprising at least one symbol having a first portion allocatable to a first downlink control channel transmission, wherein the first downlink control channel transmission is from the base station to the relay node, an uplink control portion comprising at least one symbol having a first portion allocatable to a first uplink control channel transmission, wherein the first uplink control channel transmission is from the relay node to the base station, a data portion allocatable to one of one of uplink and downlink data transmission, wherein the data transmission is between the relay node and the base station, and wherein symbol timing of the subframe arrangement is different to the symbol timing of a subframe arrangement for use solely in wireless communications between a user equipment and at least one of the base station and a relay node.

    Abstract: A method is disclosed comprising defining a hybrid automatic repeat request HARQ profile for a user terminal among a plurality of HARQ profiles available. In an embodiment, the HARQ profile indicates a first time interval between downlink transmission being received in the terminal and corresponding uplink control information being expected to be transmitted from the terminal, and a second time interval between the uplink control information being transmitted from the terminal and corresponding downlink retransmission at earliest being expected to be received in the terminal. In another embodiment, the HARQ profile indicates a third time interval between uplink transmission being received in a base station and corresponding downlink information being expected to be transmitted from the base station, and a fourth time interval between the downlink information being transmitted from the base station and corresponding uplink retransmission at earliest being expected to be received in the base station.

    Abstract: There is provided a frame structure for a cellular communication system. According to an embodiment, there is provided a first radio frame configuration defining a frame structure of a radio frame comprising at least one sub-frame dedicated only for downlink transmission. There is also provided a second radio frame configuration defining a frame structure of a radio frame comprising at least one flexible special sub-frame configurable as either a flexible downlink sub-frame or as a flexible uplink sub-frame, wherein the flexible downlink sub-frame and the flexible uplink sub-frame both comprise an uplink part and a downlink part, and wherein both the uplink part and the downlink part carry at least one of control information and a reference signal. Amongst a set of radio frame configurations comprising at least the first and second radio frame configuration, a radio frame configuration is selected and a radio signal carrying an information element indicating the selected radio frame configuration is exchanged in order to configure the selected radio frame configuration for use in the cellular communication system.
