    摘要: Protective coating compositions free of volatile organic solvents and particularly useful as can coatings are produced based on an aqueous dispersed microgel polymeric binder comprising between about 1% and 70% low molecular weight polyester diluent, between about 1% and 70% epoxy resin, between about 10% and 80% addition copolymer, and between about 1% and 40% low molecular weight diepoxide crosslinking resin. The aqueous dispersed solvent free microgel polymer is produced by mixing the polyester diluent with high molecular weight epoxy to produce a fluid resin mixture, copolymerizing in-situ ethylenically unsature monomers including carboxyl monomers in the presence of the fluid resin mixture and dispersing the resulting polymeric mixture into water. Low molecular weight diepoxide resin is added and crosslinked with carboxyl functionality to produce the microgel polymers.

    摘要: Thermosetting coating compositions are based on a binder comprising carboxyl functional polyurethane, acrylic copolymer, and if desired a carbodiimide crosslinker. The binder is produced by synthesizing an isocyanate terminated, carboxyl functional urethane prepolymer in the absence of water and organic solvent but in the presence of ethylenic monomers. The organic phase urethane prepolymer dispersed in ethylenic monomers is inverted into water whereupon the urethane prepolymer is extended by reaction with a primary or secondary polyamine such as diamine to produce a high molecular weight polyurethane-urea. Thereafter, the ethylenic monomers are copolymerized to form an aqueous dispersed polyurethane-urea and acrylic copolymer mixture. The resulting polymeric binder is useful in protective surface coatings applied to plastic substrates. A carbodiimide can be added to provide thermosetting crosslinking with the carboxyl functional polyurethane.

    摘要: The instant invention is directed to a method for preparing free-flowing, water-soluble polymer gels comprising:(a) reducing the size of water-soluble polymer gels by a size-reduction means, so as to produce polymer gel particles which are less than 1/2 inch in their longest dimension; and(b) adding to the size-reduced polymer gels of Step (a) 0.001 to 20 percent, by weight, of an amphipathic compound, thereby reducing the adhesion of said gel particles to themselves and other substances.The instant invention is also directed to a free-flowing, water-soluble polymer gel admixture comprising:(a) size-reduced, water-soluble polymer gel particles, wherein said gel particles are less than 1/2 inch in their longest dimension; and(b) an amphipathic compound.

    摘要: An ambient dry water dispersed coating composition substantially free of volatile organic coalescing solvents, the coating composition containing a polymer film forming binder comprises between 40% and 50% copolymerized non-conjugated, unsaturated fatty acid triglyceride, between 40% and 55% copolymerized ethylenic monomer including styrene, and between 3% and 12% copolymerized maleic anhydride. The film forming copolymer is produced by first reacting maleic anhydride with the fatty acid triglyceride at high temperatures between 140° C. to form a maleinized triglyceride having a pendent maleic anhydride structure. The maleinized triglyceride is then styrenated at temperatures between about 80° C. and 200° C. in the presence of at least 4% peroxide initiator based on the weight of monomers copolymerized to form a styrenated, maleinized fatty acid triglyceride copolymer having anhydride groups. The anhydride groups are neutralized with amine or ammonia and the neutralized copolymer is dispersed in water.
