Abstract: An electrosurgical device comprising: forceps including: (i) a first working arm and (ii) a second working arm; a blade; wherein the electrosurgical device is capable of being switched between: (A) a first mechanical configuration where the first working arm and second working arm are free to move in a direction towards each other to grasp tissue therebetween; (B) a second mechanical configuration where the first working arm and second working arm are secured together by an arm securing mechanism that prevents movement of the first working arm and the second working arm in a direction towards each other; and (C) a third mechanical configuration where the first working arm and second working arm are secured together so that the first working arm and the second working arm are prevented from moving in a direction towards each other, and the blade is substantially flush with or extend beyond a distal end of the first working arm and the second working arm; and wherein the electrosurgical device is configured to: deliver a bipolar current between the first working arm and the second working arm, and to prevent current from flowing from the blade when the electrosurgical device is in the first mechanical configuration and the second mechanical configuration; and deliver current through the blade when the electrosurgical device is in the third mechanical configuration.

Abstract: A surgical device comprising: (a) a first jaw having a face; (b) a second jaw having a face that is substantially adjacent the face of the first jaw when the first jaw and the second jaw are in a closed position; (c) a pivot connecting the first jaw and the second jaw together so that the first jaw and second jaw are movable between an open position and the closed position; (d) one or more fluid passageways extending between the first jaw, the second jaw, or both and a region outside of the surgical device so that fluid passes through the first jaw, the second jaw, or both; and (e) a valve connected to the first jaw, the second jaw, or both, the one or more fluid passageways extending through the valve so that when the first jaw and the second jaw are in the open position the valve is open and fluid can extend through the one or more fluid passageways and when the first jaw and the second jaw are in the closed position the valve is closed and fluid is prevented from flowing through the one or more fluid passageways.

Abstract: A surgical device includes a forceps and a blade. The forceps includes a first working jaw and a second working jaw. The blade extends along a longitudinal axis and includes a notched section. The blade is located between the first working jaw and the second working jaw. A first therapy current can be connected to the first working jaw, the second working jaw, or both so that tissue gripped between the first working jaw and the second working jaw and within the notched section can be coagulated. While the tissue is gripped between the first working jaw and the second working jaw, the blade is moveable along its longitudinal axis so that the tissue is cut with the notched section without repositioning the first working jaw, the second working jaw, or both.

Abstract: An electrosurgical device comprising: (a) forceps including: a first working arm, and a second working arm; (b) a blade; (c) one or more sliders that move along the forceps between at least a first position and a second position; (d) a first activation button; and (e) a second activation button; wherein the electrosurgical device is capable of being switched between: (A) a first configuration wherein: the first working arm and the second working arm are free to move in a direction towards each other so as to grasp tissue therebetween, the blade is retracted within a distal end of the first working arm and a distal end of the second working arm, and the first activation button is configured to produce a first therapy signal; and (B) a second configuration wherein: the first working arm and the second working arm are secured together to prevent movement in a direction towards each other, and the blade is extended so that a distal end of the blade is substantially flush with the distal end of the first working arm and the distal end of the second working arm; wherein at least one of the one or more sliders disable the second activation button when the at least one slider is in a first position, and wherein the at least one slider in a second position: secures the first working arm and the second working arm so that movement of the first working arm and the second working arm are prevented in a direction towards each other, extends the blade, or enables the second activation button to produce a second therapy signal.
